Ok, I don't know a lot about this so some help would be much appreciated

If I was to design some web pages probably between 50 and 100 of them what would be the best way to host it. Say somehwere offers you a certain amount of space, does that apply for just 1 webpage or as many webpages as you like? So are they hosting you or just a single webpage

Does anyone know of any cheap web page hosting?

Your host will usually host one domain name, as in one url, and you pay depending on content. You generally don't pay by the page, just the size.

Its not cheap for a private site. A pretty basic website, like around 50MB, will cost you around $160 a year. 500MB is about 350 i think, last time i checked.

Luckily my website, mancey.com is hosted for nothing by a friend in the game. Especially lucky because its bloody huge with a heap of high quality images, several gig all up.

Of course you have to register a domain name first. A .com.au costs me 22 bucks a year. Dot orgs are a fair bit cheaper.

Thanks for that. I had a look at GoDaddy who do up to 200gb for $13 a month which I thought was ok. I wouldnt mind paying that If i could use more then just the 1 domain name as 1 of my websites won't be 200gb but say if I could use 10+ they would equal up to 200gb so would be a lot more cost affective

Nice website!

Looks like i've probably overestimated it a bit now i add it all up, can't say i've ever done that honestly.

Probably only about 1/2 a gig. I add to it all the time tho so it's got plenty of room to move.

Its hosted locally in perth, where hosting seems to cost a heap more than GoDaddy, the prices on their site are amazingly cheap!

When i was looking around a year back it shocked me how expensive it was to get stuff hosted locally. I wasn't going to bother until a mate offered to do it indefinitely for a carton:D

haha geez you got yourself a good deal

Yeah not to sure if I want to do it if there only going to do it per website instead of however many websites I can use to fill up the allocated 200gb

How much does your friend usually charge?

Ask em mate, i'd imagine different hosts have different policies, i'm far from an expert on the subject seeing as i get mine for free. That was the policy for the hosts i asked, but they had allowances of much less than 100gig, more like 100meg.

As for my mate. Its not like he runs a company that hosts websites or anything. He's in IT, and has an ex workmate friend who works in a rather large hosting firm. Said friend allows him to hook a machine up to the companies network for nix, and our circle of friends all basically take advantage of it, and run our own sites.:thumbsu:

My website is more of a convenience than anything, allowing me to share photos with my friends/family when i'm travelling around.

I've got a site hosted at http://www.servage.net/

I hear they're not great if you're going to get heaps of traffic as they use shared hosting (like godaddy for their cheaper packages), but it's only $8.35 a month (which is actually billed every 3 months) including 1 free domain name (I assume a .com?? thats what I have, but also what I wanted), 510 GB space, 5010 GB transfers per month, and I think you can have any number of domain names/websites on that one account, plus 1000 mysql databases. I've had no problems with them (over about 18 months), but I only get about 30-50 hits a day on my site, so can't say what it's like for bigger sites. The control panel (made by them) isnt the greatest though, but easy enough to work out.

Worth reading around the web about them though, not everyone has good things to say from the research i did (but that was the same comments with pretty much all cheap hosts I looked at though). But if you want cheap they are good for that.

Should say too, that I don't know a geat deal about hosting, and what is good or bad, or what to look out for, but I'm happy with it.
