I heard Mark Webber is linked to Williams for next year. Montoya getting the arse!
If its true..Frank Williams must see big things in the lad :)

maybe he does (I mean everyone knows the boy can drive) .... but Frank's philosophy has always been that the driver is only 25% of the whole package ... plus he has a track record of dumping his big name drivers even after they have become World Champions (Mansel, Hill, Villeneuve)

maybe he thinks a Ralph & Weber combination might make a more harmonious team than the current bitter teaming of Ralph & Montoya

JPM will almost certainly be staying at Williams next year so Webber wouldn't be a chance at Williams until 2005. He's definitely a frontrunner for when a seat becomes vacant at Williams, particularly if Alan Jones is consulted knowing how much stock Frank & Patrick Head put on what he says.

In another move, its looks as though Fishi and Massa will be driving for Sauber in 2004 whilst Heidfeld and maybe even Frenzten even after the dispute of 2001 could be starting for Jordan. Heres the article:

Motor racing chief Eddie Jordan has invited German driver Nick Heidfeld to drive for the Jordan team next season. Heidfeld is currently with the Sauber team but boss Peter Sauber is set to dispense with the services of Heidfeld, who has managed to claim just two points in the drivers' championship, with Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella and Ferrari test driver Felipe Massa set to arrive at Sauber for 2004.

"Heidfeld is always an option - Jordan said in an interview with Die Welt newspaper on Saturday - If Sauber do not want him then he is welcome here."

Irish team boss Jordan, 55, has been in talks with Mercedes about a new engine for 2004, worth an estimated 10 million dollars per year, and that could persuade Heidfeld to join the Jordan set-up.

"I have spoken with Mercedes and they appear to have the best conditions," confirmed Jordan.

Heidfeld's compatriot and team-mate Heinz Harald Frentzen is also counting down the days to a departure from Sauber. Despite a bitter departure from Jordan in 2001, he has also been linked with the team.

I think Webber will get his chance eventually at one of the top teams, not in the next couple of years though...

next year the big 4 will probably have the same lineup, Sauber will likely have Massa and Fisichella, Jordan will have Wurz if Merc come up with a deal to provide engines to Jordan as whispered. Rumour has it that T.Sato (who drove for Jordan in 02) has a contract to replace Villeneuve @ BAR, Wilson will probably earn a seat for 04 at Jag, and Toyota have said they are keeping da Matta and Panis. So that will leave Heidfeld, Frentzen and Villeneuve out of jobs. Villeneuve could stay at BAR if he takes a huge pay cut though. Not sure about Minardi, they will probably have the same lineup though.

2005 is the year we could see some really big stuff happen (Montoya to McLaren, Webber to Williams, Coulthard to Jag is the rumour). Montoya and Raikkonen would be one hell of a team!

Ford have stated that they want to supply Cosworth engines to three teams in 2004. Jaguar is their first priority. Cosworth want to continue their partnership with Jordan. The third team (currently Minardi) was not mentioned in the article.

I wouldn't be surprised if he left F1 and returned to CART or IRL.

Add one, possibly two Ferrari seats to the list.
The team will finally run out of patience with Reubens and sack him. Fisichella or Alonso would be my pick for a replacement.
Michael Schumacher will probably retire in the next couple of years. His family is more important than his career and he's achieved enough records and made enough money to not have to risk his life for a job.

Well Jordan will be desperate to get out of the deal, the Cosworth engines have been shocking this year, yet another 2 engine failures on the weekend with more in practise earlier in the week. I hope for their sake they can get out of the deal and become competitive.

BTW, Fisichella has signed a deal with Sauber next year and will probably replace Heidfeld who Eddie Jordan is chasing.

After hearing his comments after his retirement in Hungary I would have to agree with you. He is obviously not happy at all in the team and BAR obviously aren't happy paying him that much. You can't blame Jacques though, he's been racing well with the car he has (until it inevitably retires).

I think Alonso has a long-term deal with Renault, and Schumacher doesn't really want a superfast team-mate, so I would say either Fisichella or Massa, probably Fisichella. Should Massa be at Sauber next year the 2 could be conceiveably racing eachother for a seat at Ferrari!

JPM is definitely contracted until the end of 2004 and has said he will see out the contract. I can't see Frank not keeping him even if he will end up at McLaren replacing Coulthard in 2005. If he goes Coulthard will be out so quick it isn't funny.

Ralf I don't know about. I thought he was the one who was safe at Williams, but it would create havoc in the paddock if both of them we given there marching orders.

Teams (supposidly) committed to drivers next season(please edit):
McLaren:
Kimi Rakkonien
David Coulthard

Ferrari:
Michael Schumacher
Rubens Barricello

Williams:
JPM
Ralf Schumacher

Reanult:
Fernando Alonso
?

Jaguar:
Mark Webber
?

Toyota:
Christiano Da Matta
Oliver Panis

Jordan:
?
?

Sauber:
Fisichella
?

BAR:
? Jacques contracted but would be surprised if he's there.
?

Minardi:
(the better question is will they make it to the grid in melbourne)

He's only had a couple of real runs in the car with the testing ban at the moment, you can't expect him to match Webber right away. First race he was tagged on the first corner and the 2nd race a Cosworth engine decided enough was enough (again) He qualified 12th too, which was better than pizzonia could do all season.

True CarterS, but comparing Wilson to Pizzonia would have Wilson winning every time wouldn't it. I did forget though that Wilson won the Formula 3000, beating Webber so there is hope for him.

Wilson has been bloody unlucky. His best bet this week is to run a light fuel strategy and try and get a good qualifying position. I want Wilson in the points for the sake of Jaguar's 5th position.

Frank Williams made the comment
'You will be very surprised by our driver line up next year'
Which indicates someone will leave at the duration of this year but who?
In Montoya's case he has said before on numerous occasions he would be honoured to drive for McLaren becuase Ayrton Senna made his name there and such.
Ralf Schumacher blasted his team after the last race after he claims that he wanted to go in and pit for wets but his team ignored his orders and he subsequently crashed out of teh race. Such public criticism of his team cannot be taken lightly.
Frank Williams has been quoted given Webber huge praise before.
So????
What will eventuate?
Webber could quite easily end up at Williams
IF
Jaguar would release him from his contract, which i doubt they would do.
Whatevre the outcome it will be very intersting to see how this pans out in the coming weeks.

Jaguar aren't exactly breaming with money, the talk is that they want a driver capable of paying for their second seat next year. With that in mind a good offer from Williams for Webber's service might be enough to release him.

Contracts are the sticking point but something like this could be the go:

Montoya to McLaren
Coulthard to Jaguar
Webber to Williams

Jaguar use the money they receive from releasing Webber to pay Coulthard's wage demands for X number of years. It would all hinge on whether or not Coulthard would move to Jag or see out his contract at McLaren and retire.
