Website- Best Way to set up own??

What is the best way for me to set up my own website?
To market a service.
Im with ozemail.com {Not sure whether thta has any thing to do with the scheme of things?

Do you mean not on free servers like geo****ies?
Best bet is to get hosting overseas like with my site, OZ hosting is ridiculously expensive.

Forgive my ignorance but can you explain the geocities bit.


Iwas in http://www.e-consultancy.com last night and came across a radio button titled "HOSTING" but I wasnt game to go too far coz Ive got no idea what it all means.

theres no point bothering in setting up a site if u dont know the background or whats going on...

My best bet is get FREE HOSTING. Hosting is when you sign up (this is for free hosting) and you have a account with certain amount of space and server abilities (according to policy) and you upload your site (pages) onto your account so ppl can view your website. But some "free" web hosts do have banners, some dont.

Definitely a free server is the best option to start off with, unless you are really serious about creating a website and feel that you can continue to update it in the future there is no use paying for hosting as yet.

I think the best free host is http://www.brinkster.com

They have no ads and have been very reliable since I have been with them, unfortunately the address is very long, for example my address is http://www27.brinkster.com/hawkfan5
which is just too long for some users to remember.

So what I have done now after a couple of years of running my site is I have purchased my own domain name, my new address is http://www.hawthornhawks.com and all it does is when people type in the address is it redirects to your site you already have published on the free server, that is only costing me $27 a year for the hawthornhawks.com address which I was suprised was not already taken.

I purchased my domain name at http://www.ozbcoz.com

I got a book here somewhere called Microsoft Frontpage...That should do it.

Who did you get a domain name for 27 bucks a year from??? How quick is the server???

Back to the original question, for begineers, it would be best to use a free host.

When editing a HTML page, i think its best to type the HTML code in notepad. i learnt to do it at Page Resource which i thought was a superb site.
