Averaged 10 clearances a game - lowest 5, highest 17.

Doesn't mark the ball much but looks like he's a bulldozer when the ball hits the turf.

Have seen quite a lot of Boyd in my scouting in the last few years when he was at Norwood and you certainly have a good one that’s for sure.

One word that sums him up - Gladiator.

Super strong, will hold his ground in contests even against bigger rucks which he will encounter and will command a physical presence in the contest at stoppages - he makes mids walk a bit taller have him around. Clears space well, fights for it on the deck and his best asset of all - following up his ruckwork like a bulldog chasing a bone at times and works hard to get clearances even if at times they may be scrappy, it’s more the effort that comes to create and will tackle hard, burrow in and dish off with hands readily.

Around the ground he can cover it well and is deceptively quick for someone of his build, he may give the appearance that he will be blowing and slow but he’ll get around no dramas. Marking is strong but he doesn’t mark enough in his style of play- he’s got the aggression of Minson who also was low on marks but the ground ball work of Xerri and a bit of Briggs perhaps. Old school wrestler but with plenty of around the ground work in the contest, he’s just not a spreader as a marking option so much. No doubt you have all seen his stats from last year, some big games.

His actual ruckwork is very good, and when on a roll can dominate in that regard although I expect less of that against the proper AFL stars and rucks that have long arms (Gawn, OMac etc) or ones that can jump who may cause him some trouble at times. He’s 1cm shorter and 6kg heavier than Nank and he goes alright so have zero doubts Boyd can make a very solid AFL ruckman as a 1st ruck let alone as a backup where he will be more than handy to Marshall. Pretty good bloke as well and understands his game and the game as a whole and structures. Was quite disappointed when the crows overlooked him constantly but certainly glad to see him have a crack, he deserves it.

My observations as well from seeing him in numerous training sessions. Mature headed, knows his stuff, only knock on him is his height but he seems to make up for it with strength and positioning.

I think he surprised everyone including Pittonet and De Koning.

Was so physically strong that both Carlton rucks had to modify their approach to the ruck contests.

I thought it was the most impressive performance of any of our newbies yesterday.

I'm with you there Sully.....my gut tells me that he may surprise....big time.

Quick story.

At the open(LOL) training session late last year......Harry's folks were there and were incredibly excited that the club wanted Harry on the list.

I believe that it was all locked in place that day or there abouts.

You can only judge by what to see at training,but Harry appeared to have the "bare bones".......he certainly looked to have the minimum "goods" to me.

And I ain't any type of expert.

My cousin from Adelaide txted me a few days later saying....."please tell me we aren't seriously thinking of taking Boyd"

Incredibly....some Victorian AFL news got thru the SA Iron Curtain !!!!!

He lives a few streets from the Norwood oval aka...the "cake tin"

He watches most Norwood games and said ......he "can't see it with Harry"

I replied saying "calm the farm" and let's see how he goes.

Big Ro needed assistance.......we certainly didn't know Ro had done his Pelvis late last year........and Harry was the obvious choice at the time....he was certainly worth the punt.

When the club advised that Ro had pelvic issues,it twigged my memory that he was wearing the no contact fluro cap at training late last year/early this year....we just assumed he was being managed for a big 2025.

Wrong !!!!!!

Boyd looks like a very solid backup ruck option for us but Lyon doesn't seem to like playing two rucks. If King can't get himself fit then I could potentially see us playing Marshall forward a lot more with Boyd in the ruck.

One question I have, do you think that he could find a role as a monster FB at AFL level? He seems to have the athleticism and speed required. Obviously physicality is no issue and his skills seem okay (enough to dish out to a Nas/Sinclair in space). He's bigger, stronger and faster than Cordy.

If both rucks are up to scratch and versatile, I can definitely see us adopting a dual ruck approach with Marshall in the forward half and Boyd in the back half (sitting in the hole). By the looks of it Boyd is no slouch at ground level so I'm not overly concerned by having both on the ground.

We don't want to take Marshall out of the ruck entirely, he has been unreal the last two years there.
