AFL Club
Carlton

Matt Dick officially a Carlton player.
Welcome Matt!
Admittedly I have only seen his highlights package that was posted here a few weeks back - but from limited viewing he seems to be a type that can help fill one of the holes in our list.
Goodluck Matt.
Also - very impressed with the club's swift actions to replenish our redhead stocks after losing Robbo :p

Carlton is pleased to announce the Club has signed delisted free agent Matthew Dick.
The 20-year-old former Swan is yet to make his AFL debut, but he enjoyed a solid year in the NEAFL. A 187cm tall defender, Dick spent the year playing mostly across half-back and pushing into the midfield.
Originally hailing from Victoria where he played 14 games for the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup, Dick was recruited to Sydney with a third round draft pick in the 2012 National Draft.
Carlton’s GM – Football Operations Andrew McKay says Dick is a big-bodied player who will offer the Blues flexibility.
“It’s great to get a versatile young player like Matthew through the door, particularly coming from a strong club such as Sydney,” McKay said.
“He’s a powerful right footer with plenty of leg speed who makes good use of the football.
“Matthew only turned 20 on Monday, so his addition fits with our overall strategy to lower the age profile of our team.”

We love that 2012 draft :p

So did Sydney having taken Lloyd, Richards and Rampe through the rookie drafts.
Terrific outcome for them and goes to show you can dismiss rookies too readily.

We won't know our team with all these new players next year.
Some haven't even got used to Johnson, Holman, Giles, Sheehan and Byrne yet and now we'll be adding an additional 13 players this year.

EDIT: Probably unfair to judge a book by its cover but he just looks like a real nice guy.

:)

Whilst I'm still very sad to have lost Jeffy in particular, I just love the idea of adding 13 players this year - especially because they are all young. I know there is no guarantee on any of them to make it - but it's still just as exciting.

We have plenty of back flankers but they all play senior footy. Matthew will add to Northern Blues depth across the field while potentially giving us a handy player down the track if his development goes well.

Maybe we plan on playing him higher up the ground - or along with Walker, Mick wants Yazz permanently higher up the ground and maybe finally in the middle?

On the other hand, we did delist Duigan, Scotland, McInnes and Bootsma.

So plenty of opportunity for someone new to make an impact. Particularly with Docherty, Yarran and Buckley stepping up into midfield roles plus White and Walker going forward. :)

Carlton instagram says he played midfield in the NEAFL this year.
