Well if the likes of Ryan, Brockman, Long, Cripps, Petruccelle and Dewar are performing well enough to get a game ahead of him I see that has a good thing

(assuming that Owies himself is playing reasonably well)

On reputation (career) he’s ahead of all bar Ryan and Cripps and both had underwhelming seasons.

If Owies plays 5 games of WAFL (not through injury) I’ll do a Shark Darks

Perhaps the circumstances of how his blues career ended might stoke a bit more fire in his belly. 60 odd goals in two years and one of their best smalls and then being told he would have to make way would annoy/piss him off a bit.

Looks like a fail already.
Second in the team for tackles, has a goal in two of three games.

I think the broader issue is there’s no need for all three of he, Cripps, and Long to be playing if they’re all seeing so little of it. Could probably add Brockman to that pile but I see the point of difference there conceptually at team selection.

He’ll be a fine enough cog in a forwardline that gets very few opportunities. Dropped an absolute sitter today though.

We have too few half forwards not getting enough of the ball

Cripps, Long, Owies, Brockman, Ryan and at times Baker and Graham with stints at half forward. I know Mini is all about players being able to play multiple positions but F me I’m sick of seeing so many short people in our team with an inability to win enough of the ball.

Has made multiple glaring basic skill errors which are pretty unforgivable for an AFL footballer.

By no means alone but Jesus Christ I cant wait for the day players of his calibre aren't in the best 22.

He coughed up the pill a few times like a spud, and then also dropped that uncontested mark after the team worked so hard to create that turnover and scoring opportunity.

Bit of a stinker but overall I don't hate the fact he's on our list.

If Cripps was retired and out of the team he'd be picking up a lot more slack. Think of him as our pressure forward and you'll see his value more.

He's ranked 4th at the club for tackles per game (4.67), clearly ahead of the next best underperforming small forward spud. Not even a contest really.

Cripps 1.67
Brockman 1.67
Long 1.0
Petch 1.0
Ryan 0.5

Cripps, Owies and Long as a small forward trio is a recipe for disaster. Too slow, not skillful enough to compensate.

Ryan is actually playing pretty well. Petch had a good preseason and offers a point of difference. Brockman has done bits, but he flashes in and out way too much.

It's more the mix than just Owies alone.
