Starting to grow into it, needs a hell of a lot more dog in him if he’s going to play down back, but I think he’s starting to figure it out as a user behind the ball.

Seems to be defending better of late, appeared very unaccountable early in the season.

I will say the last two weeks he’s put himself in harm’s way quite a few times, the one in the Derby in particular was spectacular.

We’ve asked him to play every position on the ground in two years so maybe the full season without chopping and changing is starting to do him good.

I do remember early days he did show good intent and mongrel when playing in the forward line.

I wonder if it’s currently a fitness thing more than anything. Hopefully once he gets his fitness levels up with another preseason or two he gets stronger in the contest and better with repeat efforts.

He is certainly one player who has shown big improvement this year.

Feel like Ginbey and McCarthy playing back kinda makes him redundant in defence.

He and Hutch need to move back into the front half of the ground - the experience in different roles this year will do them good, but I think that’s where they’re best suited.

We need Maric delivering the ball I50 not trying to negotiate ground ball contests deep in defence

If he's not a 200 game player for us then it's a failure of coaching. He's shown enough to show he can get there.

Done well for a mid season pick. From memory he lost a lot of weight in the year before getting picked? Be good to see him muscle up in the gym to get that aggressiveness - doesn't need bulk, just follow the Hough path.

I like him. I think he will become really damaging as the side improves. Get the KPP positions sorted, and we can really use Maric and McCarthy to their strengths.

KPP: Edwards and Archer Reid (or insert new KPP here)
3rd: Ginbey
General Defender: Hough (and/or McVee if we get him) who can go tall or small
Attack: Maric and McCarthy.

One can only get so erect.

Am a bit surprised he hasn’t been thrown forward in recent weeks considering how poor we have been in that area, showed a bit there last year, great mark , great kick and knows how to lead up at the footy.

He’s hit some nice kicks on the ****, along with a couple misses but like what I see from the young man.

Interesting fact on his Wikipedia page - says he had a 30 cm growth spurt when he was fifteen! Still hope for us yet

How the heck is Ryan still only 20 years of age?
Seems to have been in our system for ages.
He will only keep improving with more exposure.

A really crucial next year or two in his development, but has still so much time up his sleeve given he will only be 21 later this year.

I like him up the ground more and actually hope we send him forward again in time as I think that’s where he will inevitably play his best footy but his consistency of performance is improving week on week.

We have so much ordinariness on our list that should be cut before Chesser. He has something. His ground coverage is elite, he's going goal square to goal square.

His confidence seems to be up as well. Laid some crunching tackles. I think he's probably beginning to get confidence in his body as much as anything, after so many injuries.

I was in favour of trialing him in defence, given our deficiencies there. But he looks much better on the wing.
