I find it hard to believe we will turn the corner if we keep Voss and Austin and just change a few assistants and brad lloyd. I thought if voss is staying then most of the fault must lie with list management and Austin should go. Continuity with Voss and Austin seems to endorse thst coaching and recruitment are acceptable when results suggest one of them is sub-par
Not really. Just says of the things that can be fixed vs rebuilt this is the 'best' blend and use of resources. Supporting and fixing a coach they deemed do-able. A new head of football likely sorts out any perceived issues with recruiting because at its core the recruiting has been very good with Austin. It's more list direction and management of the list. Which is far more influenced by football department factors outside of list management team - ie the inputs of head coach and high performance and coteries etc - and then of course Wright sent a message to the players - doesn't matter if he believes it or not - the message being 'you aren't good enough, get better or get replaced'. So he's whacked them to start. With a trade period coming up.

I'm not overly happy about keeping Voss but by no means does keeping Voss imply the problem is list management and then Austin should be gone. Complex systems do not have either or answers. That is a naive use of logic.

That would be a long list and would put the cat amongst the pigeons on BF and will not go down well with some on here!

Here is a start for you, anyone who has been in and out of the team this year and over the age of 24...

*Come at me!
Off the top of my head that's a pretty short list, Acres and Pitto? Wouldn't really call Acres fringe though.

I think it was more of a whack to make his authority felt by the players. All good premiership teams have mid 20s players in and out of the team. Can't remember the names off my head but the hawks, Richmond and Geelong certainly weren't gun shy on keeping guys with low ceilings but high ethic and good attitudes... Collingwood too tbf.

Having a vfl team that's full of developing players forever is not right. I think early Voss we had just far too many swing and hope development list spots and not enough in and out 25 year old clubmen. Then it got better and injury couldn't stop us in 2023.... Only Brisbane in Brisbane could, so we shipped it all off and filled up with development again. The floor fell out. The ceiling is still there I guess but the floor fell through the basement.

He’s got good currency, could get a decent player and pick for him

Will force gameplan change
The gameplan change we need is the forward line being coached properly and the players executing that coaching

Don't remember Fog missing many games. Cotts is not fringe and neither is Kemp. Both would be in the side if not injured.

And just like that you fell into the issue that holds us back as a genuine top 2 side!

Over estimating the ability of our list...

How am I doing that? You think you're being controversial but you're not, I'd delist/trade most of the list tbh, I'm trying to understand the players you're talking about as to this point you're just being vague. Nowhere in my questions to you did I give my opinion.

Am I in the minority here? I thought Wright's interview on the CFC website was incredibly underwhelming. He dodged so many questions, gave clichéd answers, revealed absolutely nothing about himself or what he's trying to achieve, and gave no sense of enthusiasm or appetite for the road ahead. Gets mild browny points for saying its not good enough but made things sound worse than they are too and gave little praise out. Plus hating on the agent of change was just down right weird. Shocking interview that now leaves me with doubts on him. Sounded like a football player rather than a CEO and under delivered on his first opportunity to make a strong, positive and meaningful first impression.

What are you expecting from him? I took a lot from it, if you read between the lines he says quite a bit, says the list isn’t good enough, says we will be busy come trade time, says TDK not looking good to stay, mentions star players are contracted and required players.

There’s plenty there to suggest we will be very busy and active.

Cotts, Kemp and Fog are ALL fringe players. Your opinion is that they are not!

My comment is that CFC supporters are looking at said players as part of the 22 when they should be 'break glass' at best...

Not being vague at all, I gave you THE names but again it's hard to move on from them as we hope they can get better or not get injured.

One can’t make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, so yup several fringe and any disgruntled established need to go.
As for GW supporting Voss into 2026 it’s ok.
Optically sound for the club, meanwhile he’ll install a senior mentor to take the rains behind the scene and help refresh a game plan and mange assitant coaches. He’ll keep an eye over list management most certainly not much will get past him.
Reckon Mr Wright is a very good operator in time, he’ll get the results we all hunger for.

Cotts, Kemp and Fog barely miss a game when fit, so by definition they are not 'fringe'. It's not my opinion.

I'm not seeing any supporters who are against trading almost anyone on our list. Getting rid of Cotts, Kemp and Fog isn't going to move the dial for us.

Take it to List Management.

Thanks!

Did GW state who the 'Big Five' were?
I believe he was referring to Cripps,Curnow, Weitering, McKay and Walsh, in response to a journalist's question.

From Wright's recent interview I think there will be a lot of player movement both in and out of Carlton.
Just a question for the draft watchers though, with the 25 draft supposedly pretty shallow, will we focus on future picks for next year to build draft points for Walker?
I'd imagine most of it would be for 26 whilst also keeping enough for Dean this year.

Doubt we will be looking to add too many points for next year. The Walker bid is very likely to take up more than just our ‘26 first rounder. Thinking ‘26 may be a year for free agents and rookie elevations more than drafting outside of Cody, unless we manipulate trades around our pick somehow.

Won’t be surprised if we end up with a raft of low level trade this year, nor will I be surprised if GW bites the bullet and accepts an offer of overs for Charlie who is the one of the five who has made the most noise in that area. Would have to be very imaginative though, as the likely suitors will be short of sufficient expendable draft capital.

I don’t think the draft is as shallow as many think. Expecting some rope-a-dope action from recruiters. Light for genuine midfielders and key defenders. Plenty of good “role players” and some forward tall x-factor but mostly from outside of Victoria. Seems when the Victorian talent is not up to expectation it becomes a shallow draft, with most pundits under valuing the inter state options.

If we lose TDk & JSOS as expected we could very well be bottom 5 next year, based on that we should need not more than our 1st, Walker is looking top 3-4 but things go can change over 12 mths.

There is now a significant gap between the top 9 teams and the next tier, so we have a real challenge to get out of the bottom 6 in the short term.
The upcoming draft has good talents but certainly not the depth of last year.

Offset by hopefully returns for Walsh, Newman, Kemp, Jagga Smith, Cottrell etc the ledger doesn’t look bad O’Farrell makes a dent that would have offset JSOS, but development of players plays a part as well. This season’s result should be an outlier.

Possibly this year is a outlier but if we look at the last 12 months our performance results are bottom 6.
Most of our best players have peaked, so l expect improvement is going to come from players we can add to the list & growth in young players that have gained some experience this year.
Adding some good ball users & some speed is critical.
