Recruited as a high half forward and outside run rather than inside mid

So when Jack got a gig in the senior team he showed potential. Maybe he lost a bit of passion playing for Brisbane reserves. I really do hope he finds himself at Collingwood.
Thats one thing I wondered about. Rather than loss of passion maybe confidence. It sounds like he was destined for delisting before his late season form and he himself complained Brissie were slow to offer a contract.

He may not have been feeling the love up there and we all know an injection of belief and confidence can sometimes work wonders. Hopefully us giving him a 2 year contract and showing belief in him will maximise his output. With his physical tools if we can turn him into a player we can have a win here.

One thing that i really rate about Crisp is his acceleration, makes his opponents look flat footed. Also know's how to link up well and continues to run hard to get the ball back. Yes at times his disposal can be a little suspect, but i welcome any type of player that offers a bigger body with pace as it's something we lack.

Well this Morning I saw a bit of the Replay when we played Brisbane.

Saw a bit of Crisp, He has good speed and loves to run and Carry but I thought he looked raw. Kicking was Poor(Though in the Highlights looked he was good when in front of Goal) and Fumbled a Bit.

He is improving going by Hine and I can see him coming a good player but has further then I though he had to go.

It's exactly what we are missing - good ball carriers.
Hawthorn have a few of them - (Hill, Burgoyne, Issac Smith).
We will bring Freeman in next year also who has speed and also Varcoe.
The team immediately looks different.
Everyone has to now follow the Port Adelaide model.
If you don't have run, they will run you ragged.
They would have beat Hawthorn in Prelim if it was not for inaccurate kicking for goal.

Freeman isn't a ball carrier like Hill, Burgoyne or Isaac smith. His more Patrick Dangerfield inside type.

Omg. I hit the 'like' button and something 'twitter' popped up. Lmao, a new button that does nothing for me :)
Yeah I meant to ask where that came from?
Should put it on the left hand side out of the way.
Who the hell wants to tweet about BF, (no offence everyone)

So we really need a guy who has a big body, likes to run and has suspect disposal?

Didn't we already trade someone out like that for Varcoe?

Anyway, still excited though.

I think he might been brought in for his Defensive Side of his Game as well

I tend to disagree. Recruited as a medium high or upper low half forward with mostly outside but some spurious ad hoc stints at inside midfield. If the premiers demonstrate anything, they represent the ultimate in specialisation with roles for players.

Screw the premiers Mark, football is dynamic and ever changing - I would have thought you would have learnt from the disarray that is our forward 50 press that today's premiership tactic is tomorrow's achilles heel.

Teams that win flags build THEIR OWN PATH towards greatness, following in the steps of greatness makes you just another sheep.

You actually watched that again? I couldn't watch it the first time!

The main problem with the forward press is that the players stopped implementing it. The point that I was making was that recruiting someone as a high low bottom end outside underside backside onballer..... will get a very specialised footballer who is pretty useless if he is getting beaten. I was pointing to Hawthorn's strategy of using footballers in several different positions. It makes them hard to match up with and they can be moved elsewhere if they are being beaten. I dont think that kind of flexibility will ever be undermined by AFL hipsters who are "reinventing" the game every 3 months.

Understood Mark versatility is starting to become a standard rather than a feature. For the moment this looks like holding true but it too will change.

One of the truisms of life is that a specialist can be 10 - 15% better at their specilization than a more versatile performer. I can imagine in the future someone will come up with the idea of recruiting - and playing - a few high class specialists in their team of versatiles.

Should be interesting to see - will that 10 - 15% improvent over a small percentage of players offset the loss of versatility and indeed provide an edge - or not?
