A 175cm 21 year old key defender, Heads earned a spot on the Sydney East Academy in 2019 and maintained her selection in 2020. She enjoyed a strong 2020 season at the Magpies, by claiming the Under 18s Best and Fairest. The 18-year-old joins the red and white having already spent some time with the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.

List Manager Naomi Maidment was pleased to welcome the 2023 Rising Star nominee to Port Adelaide.

“Ella is a proven consistent performer in defence, an area we needed to bolster following the retirements of Ange Foley, Hannah Dunn and Maddy Keryk,” Maidment said.

“She reads the ball well, marks strongly, and will provide elite ball use out of defence, and at 21 and with more than 30 games under her belt already, we think she will complement our young, developing backline.

Ella has been very very good for us. Tough as nails, goes in hard, good disposal and skills, runs up and down her wing all day, knows when to take the game on. I’m a bit surprised that she’s only 21, she plays a lot older. She gets into really good positions up forward too, but unfortunately kicks for goal like a dour defender!
