Congrats to the best team in the world. A thoroughly dominant performance.

Im proud of SL and their achievements.

good post SLC

i have a lot of respect for Sri Lanka and for big Tom Moody and there's certainly no shame in losing a final - i hope Sanath enjoys his retirement as much as I have enjoyed watching him play over the years :thumbsu:

Well done SLC to post this, especially on a very pro-Aus board.
Sri Lanka it must be said do have a bright future, with Malinga and Silva etc, and are IMO currently the best team in the subcontinent.

It would appear Sri Lankans not only have a slightly more than fleeting interest in cricket, but also a commitment to sportsmanship. The followers of some other teams may have something to learn from them.

I'm still pursuing my quest to find a Sri Lankan who doesn't like cricket. No luck so far.

Cheers mate, we are 1-1 now.. LEts hope that our two countries meet again in the 2011 final

Well done Aussies but yes, well done to Sri Lanka for the way they handled themselves and their sportsmanship.

haha good luck with that man

Cricket is one of the few thigns SL people have ot unite them and it is one of the few links i have to my heritage

SL were the only country who could have beaten Australia IMO, the are so unpredictable, but they needed a few things to come off and they didn't.

that and Gilly :thumbsu:

SL ran into a tornado with the bat...

I am pretty sure australia were nervous when the old stage Jayasuriya was there and sangakarra was having a tonk, they needed a bit more luck but there you go.

Good post- the Lankans have a very good team, and will be there in the years to come, as they will surely develop more players.

Pity the game wasn't a full 50 overs and dry- both teams deserved that

Easy victory for us, but i really can't see how anybody can like Sri Lanka, behind Pakistan they are the biggest cheats in World cricket

stupid, dumb, and ignorant post :thumbsd:

Biggest cheats in the world my fat arse. Tell that to Gilchrist who was put down by the keeper on 100. Could have easily claimed the catch but immediately signalled that he had let it hit the ground. Gilly makes another 50 adnd that is the difference between winning and losing.

Great sports and played it hard but fair.

I am not and will never be a fan of Murili, his whole saga hs left a bitter taste in my mouth, however this does no detract from the team as a whole and the love Sri Lankans have for cricket.

Good luck SriLankanCat, your sportmanship in this thread is synonimous for Sri Lankans on the whole.

Cheers.

Couldn't have said it better myself :thumbsu:
Cheers SLC, your team has a very bright future, played it hard and with great sportsmanship but just ran into Gilchrist's once in a lifetime gem. :)

Apart from Muralis' 'bowling' I don't have any problems with Sri Lanka, a talented, honest, hard working team. They put up a brave fight and didn't really do anything wrong in the final (just ran into one AC Gilchrist). :thumbsu:

If we'd won a proper 50 over game that didn't consist of passages played in rain and near darkness, I'd be applauding the original poster for their post.

The fact he's posted it after the dismal circumstances that the game was played in and around, is even better :thumbsu:

Also a good touch between the two captains who decided together that if they had to play the last 3 overs, sri lanka wouldnt chase the runs and the Aussies would only bowl spin :thumbsu:

Agreed, great win and really stoked for the players. Especially the older guys like Pidge, Haydos, Gilly (who all had their detractors) and Punter.

As for SL, very exicting team who will be harder to beat as we lose some of those players (although Sanath, Chaminda and even Murali are also closer to the end than the beginning).

To Mahela Jayawardene - true sportsman with great dignity. I feel the relationship between the teams would have been much greater over the past decade if someone with his class had of been captain earlier, rather than Ranatunga who had a complete lack of it.
