Simpson breaks through

Sportal for afl.com.au
Kade Simpson has become the first Carlton player to win a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination after his stellar performance for the Blues in their drought-breaking win over Richmond on Sunday.

The raking left-foot midfielder garnered 18 touches against the Tigers as the Blues snapped an 11-matchg losing streak.

And it culminated a fine month, in which he has averaged 15 touches a game for the otherwise struggling side.

The 21-year-old played six games on debut for the Blues last season, after joining the club through the Eastern Ranges at the 2002 NAB AFL Draft.

It's a relief that we actually got at least one rising star nomination this year.
I've been impressed with Simpson's last few games, has been a bit of a shining light.

easy to say it now, but I've always been a big fan of Simpson. Showed flashes and bits and pieces in the past to show he has potential and it's great to see him stringing some good matches together and cementing a spot in the 22.

Well done by Kade, his speed is a welcome addition to the Blues and his goal kicking prowess on the run as well...good.

Next week, it will be Bentick :D

Why? He had 18 possies or something this week and laid 8 tackles. Went to coughlan after the first quarter and kept him quiet...He would've got it this week but this year the rising star is working on basis of having 3 good games to get a nomination

Good work Kade! Though my brother rated him pretty early on, I was skeptical due to his build as to whether he'd be a player or not...

Last few weeks though he has shown his skills and ability to kick a few goals, something our midfielders haven't done all year.

Now, HIT THE GYM son!! :)

He's been pretty impressive over the last month, not sure why he wasn't given more of a go earlier in the season.

When he was drafted he was 67 kgs so he has put on some and is now 75. Needs another 5 to get to 80.
Proof that picking the best available player in the draft is the way to go regardless of size. To get him at pick 45 is a steal. 3 years in and he would be top 10 from that draft now.

Exciting player. We haven't had a player at the blues for a while with that genuine leg speed.

We seem to be drafting that way now with Simpson, Walker 2 years ago and Russell this year with our first picks each year.

I love the way the Bulldogs play: McMahon, Gilbee, Gia etc. I hope we can draft more players with speed.

walker russel simpson and stevens. now all we need is a rough hard player like batemen who can get the hard balls and then we will hav the perfect midfield

Bateman is a running reciever type. We have a few young players who can win the hard ball. Hopefully they can come through.
Bentick, Smith and Blackwell.
