At 19, all I can remember is the thrashings, the disappointment, the wooden spoons, the humiliation, the embarrassment, the turmoil and everything else that the club went through in the past decade.

All that is in the past and to see how far we've come is an amazing feeling.

Sticking by the club through the hardest of times will finally pay off as we move towards number 17.

Go Blues!

P.S Nice to read a feel-good thread once in a while.

:thumbsu:
im 21 this year and went to high school in 02-05 when no one else was a blues supporter.

in my life time we have won i flag, lost 2 and won 3 spoons.

i am a blue coz i come from a blue family and no one will celebrate harder than me when we get 17 (ok maybe the players, coaches, board, president.)

Gotta feel for you Gen Y guys. You've caught the aberration years.

We exist to win flags. We've copped our whack, and we're back.

Wanna know the reason real reason we cop so much shit from other supporters?

Fear.

I'm in a similar position, I've only been around for the '95 flag, so the last 5-10 years have been pretty tough. I completely agree with the "one week at a time" "we've won nothing yet" "let's not get ahead of ourselves" sentiment, but who's getting ahead of themselves? Personally, all I was conveying was how optimistic I am about our position. Of course, like all of us, I do wait that inevitable fall, the backhander that has swiftly followed any positive news, and at no point should we ever rest on our laurels or become complacent.

But as I said, this is about recognising the special position we're in. Of course, nothing's guaranteed, misfortune could befall us and we could reach 2016 still with 16 flags. But hey - we're Carlton, and a lot of people are going to work incredibly hard to ensure that we give ourselves the best possible shot at success. And it's the combination of our highly attractive position (all things - playing list, facilities, administration, coaching staff, etc - considered) and a fanatical devotion to success that makes me feel optimistic & confident looking ahead to the next few years and beyond.

People hate us for it, and it's what we love so much about the CFC, but we have a culture of being the best and getting it done (forget the last few years, a minor speedbump, puberty if you will). The humiliation and embarrassment of the last decade have mixed with our pride and ambition to form a deadly cocktail. It's given us a taste of the bottom and (not that we needed it) made us more sure than ever that we do not - NOT - belong there. We're more blue-collar, more willing to roll up the sleeves and say "Hey, yeah - we're the best - but unlike years gone by we're going to have to work hard for it. And we will." And that's crucial to survive in the AFL these days, because nothing gets you to the pinnacle like hard work.

And of course, whilst I say all this, we're not there yet - not even close. There are many, many areas that still need improvement. One look at our membership numbers compared to our most bitter rivals is evidence of this. But we're on the right track.

No Passengers.
