One round to go, and the Bombers are up to 6th. 6 points ahead of 9th place West Coast, who can't catch Essendon. So, for the 5th year in a row, the mighty Bombers will be involved in finals action.:) :) :)
But with Collingwood falling over the line against St Kilda, unless one of the top 4 gets caught out having developers from the "Liverpool Docklands" project paying their players, we can't make the top 4. We'll be in the 5th-8th range - and all the teams in that area are Victorian teams. Even if West Coast scrape into the 8, they can't finish ahead of Essendon.
So, we now know for certain Essendon will be playing in Melbourne in the first week of the finals. I'll be coming down to Melbourne, so hopefully I'll get the opportunity to catch up with some of you. And Go Bombers!!!! :D :D :D

Why?

Collingwood will most likely finish 3rd (assuming Freo beat the Crows in Perth, which they should) and a Bombers-Pies second-week final will take place when the loser of 2v3 meets the winner of 6v7.

Yes, good point. I hadn't realised that the woods were still a chance of finishing 3rd.

As far as I can tell finishing 5th or 8th will mean that they go into the half of the draw that plays the pre-lim in Melbourne. This would mean playing the loser of 1st and 4th in the second week. I think this will be Collingwood as I don't think they'll get over the Doggies and there's no chance they'll win at Port or Bris!

And the winner of that game will play a prelim interstate, most likely against Brisbane.

On the other hand, finish 5th/8th and make it through to the prelim and it would be at the 'G. Granted you have to get past Adelaide in week two, but I'd say there's more chance of that than beating Brisbane in a prelim. It's a matter of taking a bigger risk sooner for a greater benefit later on.

Having said that, lets just worry about

1. Winning this week

2. Winning our first final.

shall we?
