Geelong heads south
19 October 2006 Herald-Sun
GEELONG will play in Tasmania for premiership points for the first time next season.

And premier West Coast will also return to the state next year to play Hawthorn.

Tasmania's four-game-a-season deal with Hawthorn will see two Victorian-based and two interstate clubs play at Launceston's Aurora Stadium next season _ just as the State Government wished.

The AFL is yet to release its fixture for next season because of protracted negotiations with a pay-
TV provider, but the Herald Sun can reveal its draft has the Hawks playing Geelong, West Coast, the Kangaroos and Port Adelaide in Launceston.

Great - a long weekend in Tassie coming up.
A thrilling prospect! Against a side which traditionally disembowells us regardless of where they are on the ladder. We have a shameful history at Manuka and a slightly better one elsewhere interstate - but a long cold weekend in Tasmania is not inviting. Be positive! Perhaps we'll be a better team in 2007 and accept the challenge, though I think we have the same list and the Hawks have too!

He he he! Sad but true!

Heard a wisper that the cats will play Tassie in the VFL prior to the main game.

Get set for a DOUBLE HEADER!

Sorry. I know it's bad but it had to be done.

If anyone wants to crash at my place let me know, its gonna be a big weekend in Launceston

Oh woohoo.. big weekend indeed. Please lemme know BB16 if things have changed in Tasmania, since the last time i was there. (1990, Hobart, Friday night 9pm and everything was closed)

Anyway, as for the game. Well it was due to happen. Just another interstate venue for Geelong to excel at losing at.

I very much doubt it, but I can't confirm nor deny as I was only knee high to a grasshopper back in 1990.
The party never stops in Launceston anyway, especially when Billy's about.
Me, Steve Johnson and Andrew Mackie will carve it up :thumbsu:

that blows... Geelong is too great a club to associate with Tasmanian riff raff... ;)
Besides, now we have to pencil it in as a guaranteed belting.

Trust me everything was closed. We were at Salamanca (?), just looking for somewhere to have a coffee.. it was like a ghost town.

And you'll have to strike off SJ from ya list of who will "carve it up". Apparantly he has changed his ways.

I was there last year for the Hawks v Kangaroos game and the place felt like a ghost town - as did Hobart.

New tourism slogan: Welcome to Tasmania, we're closed for the weekend!

Lol.. Glad to see the place hasn't changed then, even after 16 years.
