He just said that because he is quite shy, he wasn't quite sure the boys were completely aware of his needs and wants.

As a result, he feels that there may be less than awesome levels of respect, but it may just be that because Simmo is so shy the boys just need a little longer to understand him.

Thanks Hoffy95

Its like anything new. You have to get time to understand how people think, act and what they will accept as "the right thing"

I am sure that when the boys see what Simmo is trying to do to make them a successful team, it wont take long for them to get on board

It took Freo a year or so to get what Lyon was trying to do...

I think Simmo is quite good at doing media, he doesn't come across as being shy at all. I think it would be hard to be shy and a good communicator, and to be a good coach you need to be a good communicator.

a tad underwhelming...
before i read that, i was in a pickle , now i'm in a stew!?

Personally I think Simmo is doing well for a first time coach in his first year. He comes across as introverted and quiet which means he will be quite the thinker and strategist. I think though as pointed out, it does make it harder though to be that role model figure woosha had. Thus I think the following pre-season will do well for bonding terms.

As for the players I feel they've been lazy at the best of times. We've beaten the teams we've had to beat, but it seems we lack the work-rate to beat teams that are tracking similar to us. It does feel as though our list lacks heart at times.

Rating: 4/10 so far. Should not have lost to Carlton/Collingwood/Port.

Stand out players: Darling/Bennel/Glass/McKenzie/(Priddis (This will make a few people mad)).

Ratings have been influenced not only by performance, but also my expectations for that player. So a 7 for, say Cripps, does not necessarily mean he's been better than Shuey, who gets a 6.

POSITIVES, NEUTRAL, NEGATIVES

1. Mitch BROWN - 8/10
Having a tremendous year, finally playing with the strength and courage his figure demands.

2. Mark LE CRAS - 7/10
Has been sensational when in the side, but loses marks for that costly suspension. Classiest player on the list by far.

3. Andrew GAFF - 5/10
Has struggled with a tag at times, can be soft, is horribly one-sided, but form is slowly improving.

4. Dom SHEED - 4/10
Has done about what I expected. Played well in the WAFL, played a few games, minimal impact. Will improve with exposure.

5. Brad SHEPPARD - 6/10
Starting to look a decent player, though we still overpaid. Showing some real dash and some poise, though still shits himself occasionally.

6. Elliot YEO - 7/10
Very refreshing to have a player with real speed who takes the game on. Running through the middle has been great for his development.

7. Chris MASTEN - 6/10
Some good games, some down games. His disposal in the last fortnight has been first class.

8. Beau WATERS - N/A
Oh, Beau. :(

9. Nic NAITANUI - 5/10
Starting (finally) to work into some form. Clearly hasn't been perfect fitness wise so will give him a bit of a break.

10. Scott SELWOOD - 6/10
His lack of composure really frustrates me. When he takes some time and works through things he's a much better player.

11. Matt PRIDDIS - 8/10
Does his job week in, week out. The Collingwood game was excellent. Has some flaws that hold him back.

12. Sharrod WELLINGHAM - 5/10
Expect more from Sharrod; being dropped hopefully the kick in the teeth he needed to get his year in order.

13. Luke SHUEY - 6/10
Has been servicable, but we need him to be much more if we are to progress. Tagged out of games too often.

14. Jacob BRENNAN - 1/10
Not a very good footballer, will be delisted at years end.

15. Jamie CRIPPS - 7/10
Has been very good this year IMO, gets to good positions, applies pressure, and always chips in with a goal or two.

16. Eric MACKENZIE - 9/10
Should be the AA full back, need I say more?

17. Josh KENNEDY - 4/10
Has been woefully inconsistent, and a big bag against GWS doesn't fool anyone. Dropping easy marks weekly and kicking isn't up to scratch.

18. Xavier ELLIS - 6/10
Shows glimpses of class, the injury worries have continued to surround him at times.

19. Adam CARTER - 2/10
Developing in the WAFL, has been overtaken by Bennell in the pecking order.

20. Dean COX - 6/10
Has had some good games, but too often plays for free kicks and doesn't work hard in patches. Nearing the end.

21. Brant COLLEDGE - 4/10
Has shone in the WAFL but isn't ready for AFL action. Putting his hand up though.

22. Callum SINCLAIR - 4/10
Didn't much rate his stint at the start of the year, but dominates the WAFL. May seek a trade. Isn't good by foot.

23. Darren GLASS - 6/10
Intercept marks superb but looks to have lost a yard of pace. Will retire at seasons end.

24. Matt ROSA - 8/10
Has had a great year. Running hard, new tough edge to his game, generally disposing of it well.

25. Shannon HURN - 9/10
We look our most dangerous when Hurn has the ball in his hands. Defensively sound, an aspect of his game that is underrated. Potential captain.

26. Sam BUTLER - 2/10
Near the end, sad way for a great clubman to drift away into obscurity.

27. Jack DARLING - 8/10
Tries his ass off week in, week out. An athletic beast who puts fear into the hearts of defenders and midfielders alike.

28. Ash SMITH - 1/10
See: Jacob Brennan, but with more talent/less heart.

29. Scott LYCETT - 4/10
Much like Sinclair he dominates the WAFL but has been misused/disappointing in his AFL stints this year. Hope he stays.

30. Blayne WILSON - 2/10
Has a nice kick but little else. Delist.

31. Will SCHOFIELD - 3/10
Has been overtaken by Brown but has shown some dash when given some minutes. Big chance this week.

32. Simon TUNBRIDGE - 3/10
Does his bit in the WAFL but needs to become more dominant at that level. Has all the tools.

33. Josh HILL - 3/10
Doesn't do much at WAFL level but he is a handy depth player, and showed why against the Pies.

34. Mark HUTCHINGS - 4/10
A butcher who hasn't been impacting games. A hard worker who provides good depth but talent is severely lacking.

35. Patrick MCGINNITY - 2/10
See: Hutchings, without the chances in the seniors.

36. Fraser MCINNES - 2/10
Does a little but not enough. Hasn't come on as I wanted him to.

37. Tom BARRASS - N/A
Developing in the reserves.

38. Murray NEWMAN - N/A
What could have been. What still might be.

39. Malcolm KARPANY - 2/10
Developing in the reserves with the occasional league game. Has some tools, but long way to go. Was taken ahead of some good players.

40. Dylan MAIN - 2/10
Developing in the reserves. One small stint in the league side showed a little, but not much.

41. Will MAGINNESS - 4/10
Looks a goer, needs time to develop though.

42. Jeremy MCGOVERN - 5/10
Does well in the WAFL and had a very impressive debut. Needs to get fitter.

43. Rowen POWELL - N/A
Developing in the reserves.

44. Jamie BENNELL - 8/10
Been a revelation this year, can't really add anything that hasn't already been said 100 times.

A good review Thorney :thumbsu:

A typical CHANGE MANAGEMENT exercise that has not implemented to perfection!
If we believed we need to change the Worsfold's style of game was required, then we have to wait for sometime to be successful, especially we are getting an unproved young coach without local knowledge. This is the nature of change!!
However, if we wanted to keep the playing style and only made minor changes for improvement, then it should take less time.(for example, getting Sumich as the coach)
I still believe that the current list is not too suitable for the Hawthorn style of play. It will take some time for the change. I am not sure if the fans are patient enough to wait. The WCE is not playing as a team!!
