Adelaide people always take anything negative towards anything to do with their town as a personal insult. I wasn't even bagging it, but I always prefer a nickname to be able to have a mascot attached to it, rather than signify something special about the place the team is located. Personal preference only, though.

Fair enough. I think a team name that means something and that has some cultural significance behind it, is much better than having some cliché sports team nickname though. There's too many cringeworthy nicknames coming out from all codes these days.

abstract names are starting to take over

real salt lake (us soccer)
western force
any number of wnba teams (i.e. chicago sky)
port power
melbourne victory
perth glory

what's worse is, well in our media anyway, they start a sentence with "Melbourne Victory won last nights game..." instead of "The Melbourne Victory...."; or "Matt Gitau plays for Western Force", instead of "Matt Gitau plays for the Western..."

just my personal gripe.

A piping Shrike (the thing on the state flag) is a derivative of a Magpie; some say it resembles a Murray Magpie hence why Murray Magpie is the Sixer mascot.

Your lateral thinking towards this subject must be top notch then.

Why limit you clubs marketing resources to just a Tiger or a Dragon or even just a crow?

Would Joe Public draw that conclusion? Maybe if he was from SA I suppose but otherwise you'd think not.

Still don't see why you're getting so cut up about it.
