Western Force boasts biggest Super 14 membership base
Saturday July 30, 2005
Rugby Union :: Rugby WA

Almost 13,000 people have applied to become members of the Emirates Western Force, less than a week after memberships were officially launched.

The strong response gives the Perth-based team the biggest Super 14 membership base in Australia, with its first season still six months away.

The take-up of corporate hospitality packages has also exceeded expectations, with more than 130 companies already having submitted applications.

RugbyWA chief executive Peter O’Meara said he was delighted with the response, describing it as further proof the ARU got it right when it selected Perth as home to the new Super 14 team.

“In its bid document, RugbyWA budgeted for a membership of 4,400 people. This eclipses that number and shows just how strong a following there is in WA,” he said.

Mr O’Meara said the latest figures showed there were limited Gold Memberships left, and Silver Memberships were also selling well.

“We had more than 13,500 people on our online membership ‘expression of interest’ register. It’s fantastic that almost as many people have now formally applied for memberships so quickly.”

Mr O’Meara also said he wanted to clear-up any misconception that the money derived from the membership drive was going into private coffers.

“RugbyWA is a not-for-profit organisation, not a privately-owned business. Any money leftover, after our operational costs, is invested back into the community and the game’s development in WA,” he said.

The Gold, Silver, Nickel and Iron memberships offer guaranteed seating for every home game, access to post and pre-match hospitality, exclusive merchandise offers, free public transport and an opportunity to meet the players. Prices range from $175 to $395 for adults and $105 to $320 for juniors.

There is an exclusive Diamond Club offer ($2,750), which includes premium match-day seating and inclusion on an honour board.

Memberships will be processed on a first-in, first-served basis, with processing priority given to those people who posted their interest on the online register.

Application forms can be downloaded from the RugbyWA website and after completion should be mailed (PO Box 146, Floreat, 6014) or faxed (08 9262 3146) to RugbyWA.

Memberships CANNOT be purchased over the phone or online. However, if you have an inquiry, please call the Membership HOTLINE on 1300 853 401.

... and I be one of them. G'day all, hope to see you around these parts. Praise be to god (whoever) for finally bringing Western Australia out of the dark ages and getting some decent football!

I think so many people have been deprived of union for so long, they they have all come out of the woodwork to show support, we had a league team for a while, which was better than nothing - but that whole super league/NRL thing was a big joke!

I was so close to forking out the $2750 for a "diamond" membership, but in the end had to settle for Gold - just couldn't justify it, or bring myself to sell off stuff to pay for it!

Go the Force!

Membership now at over 14,000. Gold membership has sold out, and they expect to sell out diamond membership by end of week.

Jeez where are all these Force members coming from. At another forum dedicated to rugby, they are coming out of the woodwork.

If you don't mind me asking, which site is this? I was thinking of starting up a dedicated Western Force forum/site - but if there is enough already out there, there's not much point...

Hey Dad,

Not sure of this site's policy on posting links to other forum sites

As l am just about to become a mod at a Southern Rugby forum site, which is just underway, it could be construed as spamming by the Admins here. If one of the mods would like to make a call am happy to post up some forum links to help ya out.

At the moment am unaware of any forums covering the Force solely, but a few sites cover S14 in depth :)

SPAM by its nature is unsolicited - I shouldn'tthink there'd be any problem providing a link if asked - unless you intend on flooding every forum. I, of course, searched on Southern Rugby and came up with a site in NZ and one in Albany area - neither of which appear to have an active forum from my brief visits - any more hints, or a URL.

Thanks

13,000 members? Wow, you don't get many AFL clubs matching that.
Ah, yes you do. The Bulldogs had the lowest figure with approximately 23,000 members - most clubs are well over 30,000.

Also, these figures are only people who have registered their interest, not the number of people to actually fork out their hard earned. Big difference.

Regardless, it seems to be a good result for the franchise who should receive plenty of support.

Well okay. If a mod is reading this and views it as transgressing the rules then feel free to remove, no hard feelings.

We are at www.rugbyheretic.com but have only just started so aren't that busy as yet. If you hunt around the intros forum there's a member who posted a link there to a radio station in W.A (available via web broadcast as well), which has a Force show on Sunday mornings.

Pretty sure there must be other forums covering the S14 but haven't run across any as yet.

Once again apologises if this breaks the rules.

On another note Cannon could be the first Force Wallaby, as he's been included in an extended Wallaby training camp.

For the Super 12 now 14 that is a very good figure.

But don't go round boasting about it.

QLD are s**t and never have had any fans.
NSW has the most expensive and pathetic season pass/members deal I've ever seen
and the Brumbies are in a small town. :D

Seriously the Brubmies membership has worked so well because it's cheap and you get good seats. The seat on the sideline at the halfway line for ACT are half the price of the corresponding seats at the Sydney Football Stadium for the Waratahs.

In 2005 the Brumbies had just over 10,000 members which is brilliant for a team in a city of 310,000.

The Perth sports community is starved of major events and Rugby Union will find a niche in the market and do very well. There is a lot of wealth and Rugby contacts in the Perth business community and RU has tapped into it.
Do not forget we have a very large South African expat community- The biggest outside that country, which will support the game.
Rugby Union only has about reg 146,000 players??? so it needs to build up the base for the Wallabies. The Western Force will help drive that for the ARU.

Be afraid Dockers. Be very, very afraid. Start winning games or you clubs head is on the block.

What the hell? That is not only impossible but also unimportant to this thread. This is just a blatant shot UNIT, you've really sunk to a new low.

Just for the record a club 33,000 members isn't going to get the arse!

Im simply suggesting the ever woeful Fremantle Dockers and to a lesser extent the Glory are gonna feel the 'Force' more than any other teams in this town. If the Dockers miss the finals again, you watch yet more sponsors logos drop off and then suddenly reapper on Force guernseys.

Jesus! are there gonna be any general admission tix available at the gate? looks like the lot is allocated to members (should the demand be that high).

Damn I love living in a small city. Don't wanna sound like gloating but the Brumbies package (understandably) is much cheaper than that. Loved my 6 games for $125 (concession) 15m from the sideline on the 22.

Am a Brumbies supporter living in Sydney and got a ****atahs membership in 2003 to get priority allocation for RWC 2003. In 2004, prices went up by 40% - and they were expensive in the first place (not that I was going to get one anyway). Almost cheaper doing the dreaded drive down the Hume every couple of weeks. I hate the ****atahs with a passion and every game just reminds me why.

F**ken Waratahs stil the HSBC Waratahs (Haven't Seen the Brumbies Cup or Highest Score By Crusaders)
Was pretty gutted after that loss earlier this year. But never gonna take the gloss over flogging them 51-10 in that Semi-Final in Sydney a few years back. F**k 'em they've been perennial underachievers and will continue to be.
We've had 5 finals with 2 championships in 10 years of competition and they've got one measly final appearance that they can shove up thier arse!
