Agreed, but its been going on since the year dot.
Real humanitarian this guy

And they reckon harness racing is crooked.
Anything to say about this guy GF?
No sweeping generalisations about the whole thoroughbred industry?

seth

it is very very rare, if at all these days that a battery device is used on horses in the harness industry. Infact I have been involved in some very prominent stables and didn't see it once.

The good old polly pipe is the go, it doesn't hurt them and all it does is make a loud noise.

I think the drugs or drenches are what is the main ingredient for improving them these days. Batteries are old days.

this is what i think is a disgrace....mckechnie gets 3 yrs, which is fair enough, but nikita beriman ONLY gets 3 months for taking a banned substance ( the drug= d-amphetimenes) which i think could be speed.

to me there is no consistently, within each punishment that is dished out!!! jockeys taking drugs to me is just as bad as zapping a horse

Since when is speed performance inhancing?

The problem with using an electrical device, which is fairly widespread in the industry having been involved with it for many years, is that it is against the rules of racing.
There is no doubt that trainers use it to be able to teach a horse to jump out of the barriers effectively, but it is against the rules.
Pruesker, Boyd and McKechnie were all caught and should be made to cop the full brunt of the steward's wrath, but they should not be made the scapegoats.
Racing officials in each state need to be consistent with their decisions and not just punish a select few who happened to get caught.

Since when is speed performance inhancing?

It is more like ecky's (which yep, is similar to speed) and it aids weight loss.

And I don't think the drug code in Racing is actually specifically "performance enhancing". I think you will find the term is "banned substance". Which has nothing to do with performance enhancing.

ok, its true that speed isnt performance enhancing but we cant have our jockeys doing drugs. harsher penalties will result in a stop to this trend which is becoming more and more popular.

the use of electrical devices is quite common, preusker and mckechnie were just the unlucky ones who got caught!!!

Performance enhancing or not, these jockeys are in charge of 500-600kg often unpredictable animals and need to be in a clear state of mind. Any drugs in their system is bad news.
