Ashley Sampi comes in again and saves the day, but what a match......despite the weather it was there was some pretty good skills on show, combined with some tough football, and a near miracle comeback which was snuffed out. And the best part about it.....WE WON!!!!

Aside from Brisbane, which was obvsioubly our best performance of the year, this one was our second best in mine.

Ben Cousins was the man today, once again....he was everywhere. Injured early on but showed great courage and leadership.

Chad Fletcher was great for three quarters but went completely missing in the final term, which was one of the main reasons for the Roos comback.

Chris Judd didn't have his best match in terms of impact, but did end up our 4th leading possession getter, and was always creating spark when he was near the ball.

Daniel Chick has added his name into the dictionary as the defination for the word courage. MOM in my book.

Andrew Embley was sensational, although he's kick from 15 out was a shocker :D and his missed shot (although harder) from 45 out could've put them away.

Adam Hunter put in his best match of the year, with a great first half. Went a bit missing in the second half, in particular last quarter, but showed the best signs he has all year.

Michael Gardiner rucked tirelessly once again and come out on top, while around the ground he had quite a good presence for a ruck in those conditions.

Ashley Sampi once again came to the fore at the end of the match, and he was quite lively without being sensational for the rest of it.

Darren Glass also was impressive in a much more attacking role than we are used to him in. He was often sighted in the forward line and nearly even kicked a goal.

Rowan Jones was at the bottom of nearly every single pack, and his toughness was one of the things which I'm sure lifted everyone around the ground.

Drew Banfield tackled like a man possessed, and so often did a one percenter, taking a man down just when it looked like he was away.

Daniel Kerr put in a great hard nut performance, and did some great tackles, but unfortuantely didn't have much of a chance to do anything after he was injured.

Those 12 guys were all as good as each and could easily take out Brownlow Votes from that match.

From the rest - Damien Adkins, Kasey Green, Jeremy Humm, Glen Jakovich, Andrew McDougall, David Wirrpunda and Josh Wooden all had pretty good games without having a major impact, and there would be little complaints about the way they went about their business.

The final group of guys to mention - Michael Braun was given an absolute bath from Harvey, but he was just outmuscled and shouldn't have been on him. Trent Carroll was allright after the first term, and kicked a very crucial goal, but somehow managed to allow Sav Rocca to kick 3 in the firm term. David Haynes had quite a poor match and had little impact, but it was always going to be hard for him playing as a big man in these conditions.

From a team point of view - these wins make you apprecaite winning much more than thumping opposition who are compltely outclassed. We played the percentages very well in this match, always looking to kick long or kick off the ground rather than screw around with it, and it was that which got us home in the end.

We had numbers at the contests for 3 and a bit quarters, and it was only towards the end of the match when we broke out to a 22 point lead and maybe we just thought we'd had it won, but at the end there you could see how few numbers we had at the contest and thats when the real match winners come out - Daniel Chick and Ben Cousins, because they were still the two constants at each contest during that stage.

Pretty danged special.

The last quarter was absolutely nailbiting- when The Sampinator finally iced it, the roar that went around subi was awesome. Truly a unique experience.

GBU to follow after I've caught the replay.

Another nail-biter...can we expect better value than we are getting with these games at Subi?
And well done to the Roos too, they really took it up to us just like the dogs and Geelong did.
What sort of goal was Sampi's sealer? I swear that ball took ten minutes from when he kicked it til when it went through. The explosion of passion in the stands was unbelivable.
Can anyone have a bad word to say about any player on that pitch today? The commitment was enough to make fans of both teams proud as.
Brilliant

wow! another great game.

west coast fans have been treated to some great games this year and this one come close to the best. it showed that we could play in conditions different from the fast dry ones that we usually play.

this game had every thing. it was hard, and intense. it was close. it had a very cool fight and even some great comical situations.

Congrats on the win. For the most part a good ole competitive game, not unlike the good natured prematch comments from both sets of supporters. Gardiner was difference between the two teams IMO. Hopefully we`ll get another crack at you in September.

Fantastic game, Chick and Cousins were the game breakers, they worked tirelessly all game. Gardiner too was fantastic, assuring that WC had complete and utter control of every stoppage.

The last quarter was crazy, we broke open the lead to 20 points with Embers first of the term and I thought we were home but that famous Shinboner spirit shined through again and they came roaring back. I didnt think we could hang on but then a little Sampi magic closed the door.

Just how good will Samps be? I mean the pressure is on, a contested ball on the 50 metre line and he just runs through the congestion and full speed, one hand pickup, takes two steps with a couple of Roos on his hammer and calmly slots through a 48 metre snapshot off his wrong boot? Just class.

I was going crazy! :D

Am I glad that Chick is in our side. He's hard at the ball, sets an example for the others, talks all the time and is quick to assess a situation and just as fast to congratulate good play!

Good game.

I'm just grumpy because I got so wet.

Typical Captain Clubber :D I thought all the CC members had sheltered seating near the media boxes?

I was in Row KK (11 rows from the fence) of Block 106 pelting down with rain for 85% of the game but loved every minute of it.

One dopey dude that was sitting a few rows down from me came totally unprepared for wet weather! He had to borrow this ladies plastic bag to put on his head and then used his AFL Record to cover his legs.

Nah, I'm like 3 rows from the interchange bench, and we are out in the lovely open air.

I only had a big jacket with a hood, nothing to cover up my legs.

My seat in 315 (row E) is supposed to be undercover. Doesn't explain why I was getting wet. Still it was probably better than being out in the open.
