What are your expectations for 2018

Cant see us making finals. Thought we were a slim chance until Docherty went down. I just think learning to deal without Gibbs and Docherty will be too much in one year. Gibbs has been at our club for 10 years and didnt miss a beat so that hole doesnt just get plugged up over night. Docherty was AA so the same applies. Dont get me wrong I love where my club is at and I just think one more year of patience is on the cards. There are so many positives happening all at once and the Carlton garden is going flourish very shortly. Docherty will be honing his leadership skills. Someone will step up into his role which means we have a contigency player when he does come back and someone who is going to learn a lot more than what they would have if Docherty wasnt out of the side. Kreuzer is arguably the best ruckman in the league on 2017 form and finally realising his fullest potential. C Curnow, SPS, Fisher and Williamson have all had accelerated growth due to putting max games into them last year and will continue to grow. We still have plenty of discovery and growth in Silvagni, Pickett, Cunningham, Polson, Dow and O'Brien plus a few traded in players (Garlett, Mullett, Lang, Shaw) who seem to have plenty to offer, but more specifically Kennedy who is who we expect to really help bolster that midfield and fill the Gibbs void along with Ed Curnow and Cripps who were injured for much of the 2nd half of last year. McKay may get onto the park this year and start showing us what he can do. Byrne is back from injury who was showing so much promise before he went down.

This is not to mention a backline that I think will become of the best in the competition. Weitering, Plowman, Marchbank, Alex Silvagni, Rowe back from injury, Simpson (although in his final year I imagine) is a backline to envy. Macreadie is a player who may take the next step this year as well.

Lead by the ever reliable Murphy who has found his place with being captain under Bolton I expect we are going to see those "green shoots" only get taller. Alas I dont think they are enough to extend up to the top 8 this year and see us around the 10-14 mark, but 2019 will be the year to watch out for the Blues where all of those above elements have had enough time (and that is the only thing we need, time) to come into fruition.

Sadly I think a tough year win wise. 4 maybe 5. Overwhelmingly positive in the sense that we demostrate potential star power in kids. Whilst we wont win many games we have turned the corner. Powerhouse team 2020 and beyond.

I think we will have to be patient again in 2018, but summarily to 2017 I hope we get some good wins against our main rivals (Dons, Pies) as well as some more youngsters announcing themselves with some rising star nods.

Would like to see Mackay show something up forward. Curnow, SPS, and Marchbank to continue their good development and not plateau.

I think it will be an important year for Weitering, didn't have the best 2nd year in the AFL which many young players have had before him. Think towards the end of the year he started showing signs of progressing from a underage footy mindset to a senior one. Would love to see a really strong competitiveness more consistently and take the game on with his foot skills.

If we can get a couple more rising stars out of our last two drafts and pick up a couple of games in the back half of the year instead of honorable loses I will be happy with that. Then we should be ready to launch into 2019... Would be more then happy to be proven wrong and that to happen this year

My only expectation is to see a team that doesn’t give up and gives it all every game. Like the dogs the year before they won it all. Especially the last half of that season, the dogs were enthusiastic and played really well together. Look closely and the next years premiership isn’t as surprising. That kind of teamsmanship and passion would be brilliant. Easier to grow as a team when everyone’s playing for each other.
