I've been doing some reading lately on colours / chakras / energy fields and other stuff, and looking at what each colour represents / signifies / denotes. Thought I'd share what the different colours used by the AFL teams all mean....

Purple represents royalty, spirituality, nobility, ceremony, mystery, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment, as well as courage.

Red is the color that we pay the most attention to. We associate red with love, danger, desire, speed, strength, violence, anger and blood.

Green represents nature, environment, health, good luck, renewal, youth, vigor and on the negative side - jealousy.

White is what we see when all colors come together in perfect balance. It represents reverence, purity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence and good.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Other colours in the AFL:

Blue represents stability, unity, confidence, conservatism, cold, technology, and depression.

Yellow represents joy, optimism, hope, but also is the colour of dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, deceit, illness and hazard.

Black is the absence of light and therefore, of color. It represents mystery, fear, evil, anonymity, unhappiness, evil, sadness, remorse, anger, underground, mourning and death.

Silver represents justice and purity. It is symbolic of some protective energy.

Teal signifies trustworthiness, devotion and healing.

Brown denotes practicality, comfort, conservatism, and a materialistic character. Brown also represents the ground and earth.

Maroon is symbolic of courage, bravery, heroism, and strength.

:)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple has a good run explanation on the colour purple including Imperial Purple (Tyrian Purple).

Just before the eagles trolls jump onto this one "Purple also signifies homosexuality (especially female homosexuality)."

I liked the following from http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html

Purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.

According to surveys, almost 75 percent of pre-adolescent children prefer purple to all other colors. Purple is a very rare color in nature; some people consider it to be artificial.

Light purple evokes romantic and nostalgic feelings.
Dark purple evokes gloom and sad feelings. It can cause frustration.

Another of the colour purple from http://drawsketch.about.com/cs/tipsandideas/p/doodle_color.htm

Purple may represent sexual frustration or a need to appear unorthodox, and is a favorite color of artists.

Or the colour white...

White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the color of perfection.

White means safety, purity, and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. In heraldry, white depicts faith and purity.

The colour red...

Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love.

Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. It has very high visibility, which is why stop signs, stoplights, and fire equipment are usually painted red. In heraldry, red is used to indicate courage.

Oh and green from http://drawsketch.about.com/cs/tipsandideas/p/doodle_color.htm.

Green: Green usually regarded as a restful color suggesting well-being, and is favored by well-balanced individuals. This is at odds with some associations, 'green with envy', 'going green' with nausea, and money (due to the 'greenback').

So basically, the Freo boys are pure, vigorous, lovable royalty, and the Weagle boys are dishonest, ailing, conformist prudes.

I'll buy that.

Ok - so to pick one word of each of the clubs' colours that represent their "qualities":

Freo: transformation, strength (on and off field), vigour (in pursuing success), precision (in planning and playing) + seeing as we are identified with purple, I'll add another couple - royalty and courage (cos I like them!)

Adelaide: desire (to win), conservatism, hazard (to other hopefuls)

Brisbane: heroism (past), depression (present), optimism (future)

Carlton: depression (present), reverence (past)

Collingwood: perhaps the "colliwobbles" can be attributed to the turmoil between what the colours represent - light and dark, good and evil....

Essendon: violence and anger

Geelong: cold and innocence

Hawthorn - materialistic and cowardice

Kangaroos - depression and humility

Melbourne - conservatism and desire

Port - devotion, anger, reverance, purity (of devotion and reverence to their club)

Richmond - sadness and hope

Saint Kilda - desire, precision and unhappiness

Sydney - strength and humility

West Coast - stability / confidence, dishonesty / deceit (couldn't split either of theirs....)

Bulldogs - innocence, speed and confidence

Studies have also found a link between success and the wearing of predominantly red...at least in footballing (soccer) codes.

ie. Liverpool

A team wearing red has, apparently, a subconscious edge over those not in red

Interesting, but complete manipulation of study data I think

Interesting,I would of thought black would of been more of a edge than red and I'm surprised not more teams wear it.

Just remembered the ref's,ump's wear it.

The eagles wear gold, not yellow. Gold represents coming first :thumbsu:
It's yellow.

Dividing yellow into a myriad of hardly discernable shades describing sunsets and food is the business of interior decorators, not footy supporters.

It's yellow. Canary yellow if you must ;), but yellow all the same.

Sorry

Its Gold

Representing the coast

The mighty West Coast of blue waters and golden sands

Note that yellow sand is for construction sights and lawns

The colour in the eagles jumper you claim to be gold, is not the same as the colour of any wedding ring I ever saw.

It's yellow. Nothing else. Just yellow.

But go ahead and call it gold, eagle fans see and hear what they want to see and hear, which more often than not, is something other than what's real.

Don't get me started on golden sands. Our coastal sand is white, pal.

No purple there Ripper

So according to your chart the Dockers are represented by one of Fuchsia, Lavender or Lilac :D

There's an Opaque Purple, or check out the Pearls - there's a pretty good match for the Purple, Red, White and Green in there. Quite fitting really - we've certainly got a lot of 'pearler' players.

Well i concede

Purple is the main colour that represents the Dockers

Or as Interior Decorators and others of similar bent would prefer it to be known as

Fuchsia, Lavender, Lilac or Violet

As a foot note

These Smiles :o :( are a nice shade of purple

And then there are these

:) ;)

Haha, i will take our 'dishonest, ailing, conformist' premierships and success over your 'pure, vigorous, lovable royalty' failure any day :D

Kangaroos - depression and humility
