we trade lance whitnal to lets say western bulldogs and recieve around pick 10...we then offload it to freemantle in exchange for graham polak...what are your thoughts, as we need a key position player....I am aware he is a bit immature, though their is no doubt he can play????...we need a backman desperately

your thoughts please.

it's a good proposition but i highly doubt denis will trade picks for players...unless it's nack riewoldt ;)

What he was suggesting is not really trading away picks ... it is effectively a straight swap from our end ... Whitnall for Polak .... simply using Dogs to make everyone happy.

Dogs would take that
Carlton would take that
Would Freo? ... Polak was taken top 5 in the draft and has improved and shown further potential from there, so Freo may be reluctant to swap him for a pick 10.

However, if Polak and Freo are at loggerheads, and Carlton push their position of having the #1 PSD pick, then that deal could defnitely be a real possibility.

i could not see any club offering better than pick 10...i understand he was taken at 4, though has fallen a bit out of favour with a few undisiplined acts.eg. on the ******** a little...i think a young CHB is something we must try to do no matter what...our backline is disgusting

Polak and Fevola resorted to fisticuffs less than 12 months ago during a get together with their mutual player manager. That might cause a few problems. Fev came out on top of course.

I can guarantee you, if Pagan wants a player, he will not let the opinions of one of his player's (especially Fevola!) get in his way.

Similar to Leigh Matthews who put Akermanis right back in his place a few years ago when Aker said he wouldn't want to play with Wayne Carey as he wouldn't trust him etc. (when Carey was looking for a new club). Leigh said that if he wants a player, it is irrelevent what Akermanis thinks. Denis would be exactly the same.

Fev might not be there longterm since Pagan said "Who knows?" whether we'll trade him! He shouldn't be on the untouchable list and if we can get two first round pick next year they should take it!
no one is "untradeable" at carlton...
except for kouta...

Which begs the question of why the dogs wouldnt just swap their pick 10 to freo for Polak outright. dont need the blues in this proposal.

How about Whitnal for Birss and a 2nd round pick. Birss has a bit of toe and is your in and under style player, but likes to run and kick long as well. Has been killing them all year at weribee, but has only managed to crack into our senior midfield rotation a few times this year.

Likely youll say "birss-who", but he is rated at the dogs, much like "gilbee-who" and "macmahon-who" last year. he just needs the opportunity at senior level, and of course, a decent coach.

The difference is the Bullies need someone to make an impact straight away. Whitnal could, whereas Polak is very much still an unproven talent.

I don't think Birss is the sort of player we need. I'd say the club would be asking for draft picks anyway considering we're trying to rebuild.

whitnall is also risky because his body is unreliable, and his endevour questionable, and because he wants big bikkies. we dont want a repeat of the rawlings saga where we get a broken down has-been on $400K a year.

That's understandable but you can't expect us to give you something for nothing because you're nervous about the deal. If you want a player who can make an immediate impact then you have to take the risk and offer something of value.

FWIW i think Whitnall would be a good acquisition for you as your style of quick ball movement would minimise the problems asociated with his lack of pace.

like I said, birss & 2nd round pick. thats not nothing. birss has managed to crack it for 3 or 4 senior games this year with us, and needs to be moved on to a club that lacks midfielders to fulfil his potential.

how many of your midfielders would push out someone fromthis rotation?

west, cooney, cross, griffen, eagle, johno, hahn, gian, ray, murphy? cos thats our 06 rotation... no shame on birss not cracking into that lot, even though hes averaging 25 quality possies for weribee each week.

Pick 25 and Birss will not get the deal done. 25 is not going to get us a top prospect this draft. Not a strong draft at all. Birss is okay. Goodish player but wont improve our team very much.
If Lance was worth pick 17 last year in a stronger draft when he was fat, unfit, in poor form and had a huge contract hanging over his head then something more needs to be forthcoming this year to get Carlton to trade him.

Last year he had 204 possessions and took 74 marks.
this year it is 325 poss and 135 marks.

top 3 in the best and fairest this year looks likely.

I guess the thing is that he is out of contract, so you may be forced to field the best offer. Geelong got their ottens, north got their thompson, richmond got their simmonds and brown. There arent a lot of clubs desperate for key forwards anymore. interested, yes as any club would be, but desperate - no.

mark my words, if birss is traded he will maek a name for himself- you would have scoffed at a macmahon, cross or gilbee 12 months ago "goodish players but..."

We will most likely have first pick in the PSD so we wont be forced to do anything. Clubs are still desperate for a key forward. Always will be. Midfielders are drafted all the time but a decent forward takes a long time to develop. Surely a Dogs supporter such as yourself would be aware of that?
If you think Birss is anything more than a goodish player then dont trade him. Put up Brad Murphy and Sam Power then and see if Carlton are interested. What do you think the answer will be?

everyone has price.........
what would you give waite up for?

this kid bleeds carlton, puts in 100% each week and has all the goods,
put him in the st kilda or wce team and the comp would be talking about him in the same breath as reiwoldt.

agree everyone has their price, but only in theory.

not Waite. He is a father/son pick and watching him come to play after his father died showed what he is made of. Improving player without the faults of Lance.

clayton sticks to the recurit the best, trade for needs philosphy, so at some stage, we have to trade excess midfielders for KPP. birss, b.murph and power fit that bill and I rate them in that order.

what point is there i having a pick in the PSD? why bother turning down lances demands and then wasting your PSD pick on meeting them later and having a disgruntled player on your hands?
