The AFC has competed since 1991. We have seen 13 times someone win the premiership when we tried to. Only one side has won more premierships than us since we joined and 11 have won fewer.
Now the years before we played, do they have any relevance to us? We cant change them we did not influence them, we cant argue about them and there impact on our history!!! Does it really bother our club that Essendon won around 13 premierships we had no say in?
Hawthorns incredible run of gf's from the early eighties, is that something we should be intimidated by? If so shouldn't they be intimidated by us considering we have won a hell of alot more than they have since both of us have been in the competition together ?
I'll take this further. 14 clubs have not won more premierships in seasons we all competed in, We hear all about Carlton and there 14 or so premierships but did that history make them a better club than us since 1991? They have 1 premiership and two wooden spoons since then, we have two premierships and no wooden spoons, they had players in our era up until recently staring for them that were procured in a market we did not have access to, yet in the same league as us could not do as well as us!!!
There history brought them to what? Salary cap breaches in order to attempt to maintain there success, is that what we want heritage for? Is that what history does to you? Place pressure on you to look for illegal means to keep that history going?
Are we better off not to have that history? please conider that 1 day we will have that "history".
Hawthorn dominated for over a decade and the made the finals that many years in a row, Yet a couple of seasons later there voting on whether to merge or not!!!!
The efforts that were only really short term ones,so it appears, are they something that should be used to talk down to us Adelaide supporters? We were not there opponant, they did not beat us to anything,so why should people try and say we could never be like them and could never understand what history and heritige is?
We here how Collingwood is the most supported club in australia and has been for a long time, is this of any relevance to us? We have lead the league in members for 13 of the 15 years we have competed!!!!
Are we making a mockery of the meaning of the word history in the way it used against us by other supporters?
We are made out to be a lesser entity according to some on this forum and other aquaintinces we have in football circles and even by rival clubs, yet where has it got them? again just what does it mean today?
Does it mean there happy to sit back and ego trip on past glories and deep down they belive those past glories make up for current failures?
Does it mean next time we play them they will have more of a chance at beating us than we will have of beating them, because of there history?
