Chris Matthews. He came over to us from Carlton in 93.

I was watching the 93 Fosters Cup SF against Richmond, where we went down by a goal.

We had such a good side. This bloke was on fire tho, what happened to him, was he another one that Robert Shaw managed to under utilise?

The team we had of Roos, Broderick, Armstrong, Wynd, Lynch, Boyd, Gale, Lyon,Baldwin was brilliant.

What was exposed in that game however was Robert Shaws obsession with handpassing in his game plan. Time and again we turned it over because of this obsession with the handball. We should have creamed Richmond that night and made it to another Night GF. It was as if I was in a time warp.

Chris Matthews was the WA swinging fast bowler, who from memory, bowled one of the worst spells ever seen in test cricket (wide after wide after wide)!

I do agree with you on the team we had in 1993. 10 wins, 10 losses & about 6 games decided by a goal or less (painful losses to Adelaide in Adelaide, Essendon & Footscray, joyous wins over Adelaide, Melbourne & North Melb at Princes Park). What a great year of Roydom, until October when the tall bloke from Wynyard chased bucks up north. Sadly, it was nothing but struggle after he left

It was ASHLEY Matthews he originally went from LILYDALE to Carlton 1989-91 then us 1992-93. 188cm/82kgs/ Born 1969/Played 6 games and 1 goals/ Night games 3 and 1 goal. He just went like a lot of our talls during this period.

In that case he went back to Lilydale and was playing coach for a couple of years playing in the ruck. Then became just a player when Ron McKeown went down and coached them. Not sure where he is now.
