"In 2030 North Queensland finally got their independence from Queensland to be their own state.
Gold Coast Suns meanwhile had not developed and were still waiting to make their first finals.
AFL finally pulled the plug on the Gold Coast and Brisbane Lions became the only team once again in Queensland.
The Suns licence would go to Australia’s newest state based in their capital Townsville.
The logo they chose was used many local leagues but never in the AFL - The Crocodiles - even the first reptile in the AFL.
They also wanted a unique colour like the Giants chose. They decided the pink and black colour that Gold Coast only used for a year was perfect. Add the green of the crocodile and the TOWNSVILLE CROCODILES were born."

"The inevitable demise of the Gold Coast Suns gave the 'green' light for North Queensland to have their own AFL team to take their place. North Queensland put their hand up during the expansion of the VFL, but was met with disapproval based on travel time and that NQ is primarily a rugby area. Taking some inspiration from the proposed jumper, The North Queensland Tropics entered season 2030 with a wet tropical colour scheme true to the areas rainforests."
