I must admit initially I thought they went in to bat for him, but the after-game rage keeps being mentioned along with other non-specific issue.

Yeah but this just keeps being mentioned by journos who are trying to justify the initial story, which ended up being wrong.

Well the heading said 'Wallace sacked'. And he is still the coach.

The fact that he is the coach now doesn't mean that he wasn't sacked then reinstated. My take is that the players and the club demanded some changes (Newman intimated changes were discussed in the Presser) and Wallace's initial response wasn't appropriate and he was sacked only to re-consider his stance and approach the club and players with a compromise. Only history will show if I'm right or not but I have spent years and careers people watching and this is reading of the situation.
