Dulcify was before my time, so apart from a few video snippets and such i've not seen much of him.

The best i ever seen was Might and Power. The way he just strolled to the front and went bang was amazing. I'll never forget his 97 Caulfield cup, just about the most dominant display of racing i have ever seen.

How long has that website had the tv section? That is a brilliant idea i really hope it takes off so we can watch virtually any race we want.

I agree with your criteria for what makes a champion, that's actually why i liked Northerly so much. Watch his first two wins over Sunline he looked gone both times, Oliver was riding him hard under the whip virtually at the school in his first CP. One race i saw him against Universal Prince at Caulfield and i reckon he was trying to bite the horse next to him.

That fighting criteria in particular he had in spades.

How can you beat a horse that fights so hard and is a stalker that can also lead if he wants to? It's almost the perfect racehorse.

That's actually the first time I've ever seen footage of Dulcify, although I've heard plenty. Talk about explosive!!!

I backed him at his first start in Adelaide at over 100/1.
Champion horse.
It's the big desire to stick the head out first at the winning post that makes 'em champions.
Better Loosen Up comes to mind immediately.
That mare Zarita that won the SA Derby is heading in that direction but is NOT a Dulcify or Better Loosen Up but stranger things have happened.

He achieved in 12 months what few achieve in a lifetime...then he was gone.
Within a year we had Kingston Town & he was almost forgotten.

I was at Flemington when he came from nowhere to run down Manikato in the Aust Cup,only months after nearly dying on the road back from WA.
I thought thats what they all did but Im still waiting to see it again.

Theres not a lot of footage around from that era...more's the pity.

Yeah, a truly wonderful horse.
The Australian Cup that day puts into perspective what a champion Manikato was as well. It took one of the greatest horses ever to gun down the mighty Manikato that day.
For mine, Manikato is the most under rated horse in the history of the Australian turf. His record will never be surpassed let alone equaled.

I hardly think Manikato is underrated. He was inducted into the hall of fame very early on in the piece.
What I mean by underrated is that when "experts" like TV commentators and others including some trainers eg. DL. Freedman talk about great horses and or sprinters, they don't mention Manikato. Fancy saying that Schillaci was a better sprinter than Manikato !

I wouldnt expect anything different from Freedman. He trained Schillaci after all. Anyone whos worth listening to doesnt underrate Manikato.

Great watch. Cheers sethlad.

His winnings approx $500,000. I wonder how much a horse would have won these days if they had won all those races. A $hit load more considering the CP is worth $1.8m for the winner.

Incredible to see the lawn at the Valley empty when he won his cox plate, fat chance of that happening in the coming years

Dulcify was awesome at his peak and that Cox Plate win gives me tingles still.
Might and Power used to break horses hearts and the Caulfield Cup win was freakish.
Rubiton is one of the most under-rated champions. Absoloutly dominated his 4yo year in the spring and he raced against quality opposition like Military Plume and Fair Sir

Better Loosen Up was a freak. How many times did he look beaten, then in the last 50m he would get up and win by a nose.

His Cox Plate victory was one of the best in history. :thumbsu:

Great stuff Seth.:thumbsu:
I really enjoyed that.
Still trying to work out how Dulcify won that Aust Cup.
That was incredible acceleration.
As for the Cox Plate....Wow.:) You don't see too many Cox Plates like that.

Dulcify was amazing.

Have a look at he Saintly video too. I loved that horse.

He was lengths better the Melbourne way. That win in the Orr (his last run) is still one of the best I have ever seen. I was there and his acceleration over the last 200 metres was something to behold!
