Personally i think we need/do the following things in this years draft and trade period:
-we need a ruckman as i don't think jolly/wood combo is good enough for a premiership contender and if an injury occurs to either jolly/wood we could be in some trouble like in this year GF. To be honest i think we really need to go hard at the trade table for a good ruckman (pick 25 and a player perhaps). This should be our number 1 priority at the trade table and i don't think we should finish trade week without one.
-we need to really address the lack of pace in our forward line. blair, krak, fas, maccaff, davis, didak, sidebottom are fast but not lighting fast. We need a really fast player who is a stay at home forward who can seriously add some forward line pressure. I think the ideal candidate for this job is ahmed saad. im a huge fan of this guy. He's still relatively young (22 i think) and recently set the equal quickest 20 metre sprint time at the combine. He's lively and could really cause havoc in our forward line. i think we should look to get him at 3rd/4th selection dues to the shallow nature of the draft. Many will argue thatwe should wait for the rookie draft but by then he will be gone by the time we get to use our pick.
- apart from this we should try as hard as possible to keep almost all our players. And we should use leon davis (currency high, really not a finals performer and wants to go to perth) and john McCarthy (stuck somewhere between afl and vfl level and will never make it at our club) as trade bait (cameron wood/ another fing player if it gets us a better ruckman).
-don't use our pick 25 to get marty clarke---- we have too many of this type of player ---- (buckley, toovey, johnson, obrien, goldsac, shaw, young, davis (if he plays on) all play that defender/runner off half back) --- we really didn't loose the GF in this department and therefore shouldn't be focusing on this role.
- lastly i think the talk of trading players like blair, maccaff, goldsac, buckley, rounds is ridiculous unless we get an offer too good to refuse. They are required players either as depth or in our best 22. Our list is good enough to win a flag, we only require a few tweaks (that have been mentioned above).
- The big unknown in all of this is our salary cap situation--- this will be a major factor in the decisions we make.
But would really like to hear some other peoples opinions on this??
