Its time to start looking at who we should keep our eyes on.

Number 1 pick will be brett deledio who is a 188cm midfielder that can kick goals and is very good overhead

Number 2 should go to Lance Franklin an aboriginal kid that is very athletic and is compared to tarrent and goodes. Big wraps on this wa boy.

And the rest of the draft is a lottery. There is the likes of tambling, murphy, willits etc that are pressing hard.

Just want to know what type of player we should get.

I think 2 KP players in roughhead and franklin both are very talented and can hold down either end of the ground. Roughhead impressed me down back and thats who i would choose

from what i have seen from the u/18 champs so far.

*Deledio-will go 1st pick.[hawks most likely]

our pick is interesting we do need a ruckman, kpp and a hard nut MF.
for some reason i dont like Franklin.i get the feeling this kid has an attitude problem.
we desperately need a CHB.unlike Franklin i liked the look of Roughead in his 2nd match.he has the body and the dermie attitude of taking no prisioners.
Ryan Willetts also a strong body and looked good.
Ivan Maric.plenty of upside in this kid who use to play basketball and started football late.perhaps we can pick him up later in the draft.

of the hardnut onballers i like the look of Ryan Griffen from SA despite his poor game in the 2nd game[poor coaching].
Jordan Lewis is another in the mix.

if we finish last id go:
#1-Deledio
#3-Roughead
2nd rnd-A ruckman.

if we finish 2nd last[more than likely].
#2-Roughead
#4-Griffen
2nd rnd-same

if we manage to get another top 10 pick and finish 2nd last.
same as above with the additional top 10 on another MF.Jordan Lewis perhaps.

PS:lookout next year for a kid named Ben Eckerman from SA.another Gavin Wangereen.

cheers!

Odds are we'll finish 2nd last...from what i saw at the championships...Hawthorn will call Brett Deledios name first...

for me: id hope Richmond selecti:

2) Jarryd Roughead
4) Cameron Wood or Fabian Deluca

I liked Rougheads games...hes got some presence about him. Cameron Wood looks like hes a ruckman, really athletic over 200cm, good tap work...excellent potential...whilst De Luca didnt star hes also got a fair amount of athleticism, i think more than Meeson and therefore more potential. In a perfect world...we'd secure atleast 3 top 10 picks possibly 4 and in that instance id hope we'd get the 3 players mentioned above and then get someone like Richard Tambling. Tambling is a game breaker. If we get Tambling then we can let Rodan go somewhere else. Its gonna be an interesting 7 weeks ... i hope we lose them all...we need the priority pick!

I hope

Deledio # 2

Tambling #4

Pace and skills in the midfield

Send Johnno and Brown to the flanks

Who knows what hawthorn might do? (Hodge???)

They need key position players and they will finish last because they won't win another game this season.

Should we be using top 10 picks on key defenders???

I would stick to key forwards / ruckmen or midfielders..

In the long run finding some decent key defenders shouldn't be too hard.
I know you have to get the best player but ideally pick 2 and 4 for a gun young ruckman and key forward...

if we get pick 2 and 4, we have to pick a midfielder and a KPP. Ruckman are more of a lottery. Use our 2nd round draft pick for a Ruckman.

Deledio wont last to pick 2.
after watching Jarrod Moore in action[Robert Harvey clone] im reconsidering our 2nd pick:D and go with him over Griffen purely on the basis he,s a home grown talent and both are pretty much the same rating.

cheers!

I don't know who any of these kids are, but I would like to see us pick someone who will be ready to play AFL straight away, having the ability and the build, not a skinny kid with lots of potential who might come good in a couple of years once bulked up.

And I reckon we should get Roughhead just for his name alone! :)

I havn't got to see many championship matches so far. Though i really like the look of Tambling. He looks like an improved version of Wells! Though i know he isn't really what we need. Marc Murphy Seems like he'll be a good midfielder, i'm interested in him. Unfortunateley havn't got to see Deledio or Franklin. The only other guy who i liked and would be a real dark horse i reckon, is Edward Clarke. goalkicking midfielder, who can break through the packs with hard running, which is exactly what we need. TAKE NOTE TIGERS!

Can anyone else who watched any NSW games tell me what they thought of clarke. Cos i thought he was brilliant and we might even get him cheaply come draft time!

Only saw the U/18's on Fox Footy but one guy who caught my eye was Ryan Bain playing on the wing for Vic Metro. For those who watch a bit more junior footy where would he be likely to go? 2nd or 3rd round?

Get a ruckmen, need some youth ruck soon, Travis Cloke seems to fit the bill..
If we get him thru the father and son rule, we can get him with a 3rd round pick.

Pick 2 should definately go to the fastest midfielder available, we lack pace in our midfield.

Pick 4 a Key defender, preferably a full back, some one like Jarrad Rivers.
If we can get Cloke, that could be a wise plan.
But, the chances of him a getting more minimal as the months pass.
If not use 3rd round on a Ruckman.

Our backline will have a big inclusion with pace next year, Daniel Jackson will be the fastest player on the list, Fastest 100m and 200m sprinter at Carey. Hes 187cm, so can play as a key defensive role.

Ed Clarke and Jarrod Moore are unlikely to be drafted. Recruiting solid kids is normally a big mistake.

i think Deledio if possible and i dont really know who else and i agree with Franklin he doesnt seem like a player we should get

Tambling could be another we could go for

id be very suprised if moore isnt drafted.
you must admit weaver that moore knows how to get the ball in the same style as robert harvey.

cheers!

Is anyone concerned about picking up blokes from interstate? I see what the Bulldogs are going through at the moment with Cooney and Ray... and they are seriously trying to convince Cooney to stay. He wants to be traded at the end of this year - even though he's contracted.

I dont want to see the Tigers use both picks on interstate talent. I want at least one local kid.

Also, from reading all the posts on this thread, it seems that everyone is getting a little ahead of themselves. The Bulldogs have only won 4 games and l cant see them winning anymore than 1 more game... so that means our picks will be 2 & 5.

1 - Hawthorn
2 - Richmond
3 - Bulldogs
4 - Hawthron
5 - Richmond
6 - Bulldogs

I hope we pick the best AVAILABLE. I saw Ricard Tambling play against the bulldogs up here in darwin and I think he is something special.
Worth pick 1 IMO.
Lightning pace, accurate kick, knows where to be and also knows where the goals are. Better than Davey, he has played against men since he was 15.

His performance against tghe Bulldogs was awsome with Two goals and was instrumental in the N.T almost winning. ( HGowever the Bulldogs was never had thier best 22 on the field at anyone time)

I agree with this - i didnt vote because i think we should take the best available players regardless of position. Why do we have fiora and not pavlich? we overlooked pavilich because we didnt need a kpp and chose a wingman instead. get the best players.

This is spot on!!!

When it comes to drafting young kids it should be firstly and foremostly with an eye to developing them yourself, usually over a 2 year period. Just because a kid plays well at CHB in U/18 comps doesnt mean you cant develop him to play other KPP up and down the spine.

If this story is true about recruiting fiora over pavlich because we didnt need a KPP at that time, that just about sums up how inexperienced and amateurish our footy dept was run.

You dont recruit kids to fill current positions in your team. You recruit the best available talent and then mould them to play the game your way. If you need to fill a current position, you do so with a player already available at an another AFL club thats up for trade.

And ppl wonder why I hate Danny Frawley so much. NFI about coaching!!!
