There could be quite a few short term and long term ramifications from what happened today:

1. What will the relationship between CEO Steven Trigg and Senior Coach (God it hurts to say it) Neil Craig be like??? It has been well publicized that when it came down to the 2 coaching candidates (Craig and Eade) that Trigg was a huge fan of Rodney Eade, yet now he has had to go against his own wishes and appoint Neil Craig as coach, with Neil knowing that if it was up to Steven Trigg himself, Neil wouldn't have the job as we speak.

Trigg clearly looked 'mentally' ill and shattered in this morning's press conference, having to make that announcement.

2. Who here honestly believes now that we have signed Neil Craig as senior coach that there'll be a 'major' turnover of players. He has some belief in these 'HACKS' and will continue to give them games in the next few years. Expect to see Shirley, Skipworth, Gallagher, Perrie, Mattner and Bock around for many years to come. I also wouldn't be surprised if our only MAJOR list changes occur in the 3 retirements which we have had.

What are people's thoughts on these 2 issues?

My major concern with the appointment of Craig is that there will not be the number of required changes of both football department and list.

Can anyone here really believe that there will be an entirely new panel of assistants next year. I can assume that Peter Curran will leave at the end of the year and I can just about see now that Craig will appoint Darrel Hart to replace him.

I can also see minimal changes to the list. It is quite possible that we will have 5 retirements at the end of the year and I think it would be smart to further dlist at least 3 players that will never be quality AFL players. Now I can't see that happening.

I just hope that Craig is a good judge of talent and drafts and develops those draftees well so when they are about to blossom, a respectable coach can do a Blighty.

I think we are in for 3 extremely painful years:(

It would have been one extremely draining exercise.

We are all angry, frustrated and feel cheated. Time will tell is our concerns are justified. I have expressed my disappointement to Steven Trigg but I think its now time we get behind the club and hope for the best.

I still stand by my comments in the email that if this appointment proves to be a failure I expect a resignation from every one of the members of the sub-committee that has carried out this "process".

Look on the bright side, at least we will get some top draft picks:p:(

Coaching panel

In: Rehn, Jonas
Out: Mickan, Curran.

That would leave us a coaching panel of Craig, Carey (hopefull he stays put), D Jarman, Rehn & Jonas. Those four assistants should be able to cover any of Craig's shortcomings.

No chance of it happening. He will have a media career next year. I doubt he wouldd even be in Adelaide let alone be one of the coaches.

I would like to see us get Jonas on the panel but I doubt he would want to come over to Adelaide for similar role he has at the Swans.

I would also like Rehn to be part of the coaching staff but I don't think he will leave the Westies even though his contract expires at the nend of the year. If we don't convince him I would like us to get David Pittman.

Also would love to have Stephen Williams as an assistant next year. I reckon he would be a very good get.

It's an interesting point. Now that we've ********ed up with the head coach appointment, we must (must, must, must) get the assistants right. Rehn, Carey, Jonas are all good suggestions. I love DJ, but he's always come across as a bit thick to me! Curran will probably leave on his own accord and Mark (look at me I'm a loser) Mickan should be shown the door. As you said, with good assistants on board, they can hopefully counteract Craig's likely shortcomings.

Just as important as sorting out the assistants - of course - is our list management and trading from the completion of round 22.

i agree Stiffy, S Williams would be a great get! I think Rehnny should be included as well. DJ needs to go, Mickan needs to go and so does Curran!

I still think Andrew Jarman could have a place at the AFC. I dont think it will happen but I would like to see it happen.
Im sure Darren Jarman is a great coach, but I think he lacks the communication skills. I would love to see both Jarman boys there working in tandem in the box. I think they would compliment each other in the box just as well as they did on the field.

There is another one that I forgot. I think we could do a hell of a lot worse than AJ for a midfield/skills coach. I think he would be great. He still posseses exceptional footy brain and is a great teacher/communicator, unlike his brother.

again i agree, however as long as JR is there, AJ wont take up a role within the club! and that came from the horses mouth, not more than 1 month ago...

hope he changes his mind, but i strongly doubt it :(

Couldnt agree more, with the guys in charge though at the AFC I think JR is going to be a part of the furniture there for a while yet.
Thats what dissapoints me so much about NC being appointed, I dont think he has the balls to make the big tough calls, much like Blighty did when he came in.

I agree, we should be showing Reid the door also. He, along with Ayres, was responsible for over-ruling Fantasia with the Angwin trade. I have also heard from a reliable source that other clubs will refuse to deal with him during trade-week due to his arrogant approach.

Any suggestions for a new football manager? "Bone" McDermott always has plenty of opinions about the failings of the football dept, but people from the NAFC would say not to touch him with a barge-pole!

God I hope stiffy is wrong about the minimal changes to the list.

We need a new side!

So far we have lost, Carey, Smart and Burns. With a highly possible retirement of Mark Stevens, that is 3 great players and one part-fringe player. That's a start but we can't rely on retirement alone! Get rid of the gallaghers, and the other guys that won't cut it, make good trades or get younger guys and do what St Kilda did to their youngsters, actually play them and raise their confidence.

talk about a sick, sinking feeling.

I feel we have all been lied to, and as the situation got worse the lies and obfuscation got deeper and darker.

Now if neil craig leads us forward so much the better, but given the corrupt process we have now witnessed, if it goes pear shaped heads must roll.
