The only way your lot would even give up Judd would be if he threatened to walk. Which he won't.

Maybe, just maybe, when he's 28 or 29 and he maybe, just maybe, decides he wants to go back... then he'll play out his career somewhere in Melbourne. But I reckon you'll have him for another contract or two or three yet. The trick will be managing the other horses in your stable to keep the salary cap in tact.

They would also want to make sure that a few of the next tier players (and face it, Judd's got Tier #1 sewn up for himself) don't get peeved and want to go somewhere else to get out of the long dark shadow cast by the Great One.
Can't imagine the Chads are feeling too crash hot about not being noticed despite the fact they were clearly among the top 2 or 3 on the ground in a couple of games. They'll get over it this year, but will it begin to grate if it continues?

Please don't take this as a troll or a sh1t-stir because it's not meant to be - probably with the way your club emerged in the second half of the season, the lure of team success will keep your fellas together. But human nature says we like to be rewarded for our achievemments, and while I do not for one second say that Judd was not a worthy winner last night, perhaps some of your other guys might be thinking... sheesh what do I have to do?? It's going to be as much about managing the other guys over the next few years as keeping Sir Christopher happy too.

Yeah I agree - as I said the lure of team success would certainly be a huge factor in guys putting personal feeling aside (not that I'm suggesting they're peeved with Judd's success... just that they may like a little recognition themselves at some stage).

If salary cap issues forced someone out, it would likely be a mid-fielder, yeah? I think your KPP stocks are not too deep and although the guys you have have come on in leaps and bounds this year it would be dangerous to let any of them go - for depth sake, whereas you have a lot of very good mid-fielders. Would one of your version of the "Fab 4" go? Obviously it wouldn't be Judd, and I can't see your club offering up your captain for trade (even if he becpomes an "ex-captain" sooner than expected). Earlier in the year some WCE supporters were saying that Fletcher would be the first to go from your mid-field quartet (and they would be prepared to see that happen), but now that he's got AA.... You'd have to wonder how safe Kerr is? (Just speculating, not trolling!!!).

Actually in the one game where both Chads got votes and Judd didn't (v Essendon - and Judd should have), the camera flashed over Fletcher and he almost looked apologetic. I think they'd know they didn't stand any real chance of winning even before the count, and would rather see a teammate win it if possible. Daresay Judd would happily have got 10 votes last year if it meant 2 extra went to Cousins for the same reason.

As for the salary cap, I reckon we'll be ok. Might mean we don't pick up Stenglein. A mate was saying how Banners is on the veteran's list, plus Jacko has left, which should reduce it.

jess, I think you have to have 10 years service and be turning 30 to qualify for the veterans list.

sorry then, i thought that you had to either have had 10 years service or be turning 30, not both. That's why i thought they both would be able to be as they would have been at the club for 10 seasons at the end of next year. They won't be helping out the salary cap then

if you remember a couple of years ago Essendon had a tiff with the AFL about Hird being eligible for the vet's list after doing his ten years but at the time he was only 28 (or so).

I'm pretty sure from that there has not been any changes to the vets list rules re: the 30 years of age.

I think Fido in Eligible 2006. Cuz wouldn't be eligible until 2008?
