As much as it pains me to say it, I hope he doesn't.

Part of me doesn't. If we make the finals then the only way Hird's going out is with a loss. He deserves a win in his last match, and the only way to do that in the Finals is to win the flag, which won't happen.

He's truly a legend of the game. Such a unique player too. I love watching guys like Judd, Kerr, Mcleod etc but they just don't have anything like the magic that James has.

Going to be shattered when he retires. It'll really start to sink in during the second half of the season that I might never see another player that good again.

Fantastic thread. I couldn't agree more. Yesterday I was thinking to myself how important it is to savour these performances. To see him raise his arms in triumph after that last goal - a magical moment, of which there are too few to come

We may just witness it a few more times than we (I) all expected.
