Apparently, Barry Hall's ongoing groin injury is not effecting his kicking for goal, or his movement, or his marking ability.

So what the heck is wrong with him?

Quoted from Paul Roos press conference "It's interesting, I was watching him kick for goal before the game and I don't think he missed one."

So why is a groin injury effecting him so badly that he is having statistically worst season ever?

If he can kick goals before the game, run and mark, why can he only train for 20mins a week?

Has Barry Hall lost his passion for the game? I hope not, but if him being in the side is stopping young stars, such as Ed Barlow from keeping a spot in the side then perhaps Hall should rethink his decision to play on next season. If all he is giving the swans is a couple a goals here and there, then perhaps he should make room for some youngsters.

Do you agree?

Older key forwards are always going to have patchy periods. Melbourne have nursed Nietz through a few. Port are doing the same with Tredrea. It's the way of the game.

Don't think he's losing his passion. The key for him is to find a way to enjoy doing the team things a little more while he's kicking a few less goals until he gets himself right.

Agreed Tuco. He is still drawing key defenders, but other forwards are not capitalising on this. Or if they do,kicking for goal is not up to scratch. This thread could also apply to Mickey O. I think that the undermanned backline, and midfield are working their arses off, for no result up front!!

The thread title should be changed to "Whats wrong with Sydney's forward line". Our forwards just aren't up to scratch, the only reason I made this thread about Hall, is because he is our most important forward and we need him firing if we are going to win another premiership.

I know Hall didn't kick well on Saturday (understatement of the year), but I thought his marking was the best I've seen it for quite a while. He seemed much more confident taking a grab. He moved better too I thought.

groins are bad, they can take a long time to heal and get worse the more you play on it, hence he isnt training. next year he will be right so i wouldnt look too much into it. he is just out there becase even at 70% he is still probably one of the top 10 forwards in the league.

I'm sure that the extra running up the ground\wings does not help the injury and that the longer a game wears on, the more it will tighten up and therefore affect his goal kicking in the latter stages of a game.

Add to this the constant 2 on 1 battles and I'm sure by the end of the game he's pretty damned sore.

While the injury is affecting him, I'd be tempted to play him more as a traditional FF, saving his groin\legs the running and drawing the oppositions best defender back from play.

Especially since most defenders these days are pretty good on the rebound taking them out of the run of play might help and playing out of the square may get him more 1 on 1 contests where he can use his upper body strength to advantage.

This will increase the pressure on the smaller forwards to roam the HF line, and dropping a resting Spida\Jolly in the HF area where their height can hopefully exploit a smaller defender might get a few more goals and\or crumbing opportunities for the smaller forwards.

More concerning to me is Micky is not getting any younger and what happens next year if his form doesn't return to the 2005 version of Barry Hall?

I don't think Roosy will drop Micky, but he will probably retire at the end of next season, based on his current form.

can anyone who has played the game, tell me if it actually gets bloody frustrating when you (the midfield and backline) are working your arse off only for your forwards to keep missing goals they should be scoring. Does it affect the rest of the team, or is it just an 'all for one' mentality and you all take the hit as a team. Do forwards ever think 'crap' we are really letting the rest of the team down here.

I don't think injuries are the issue for Hall. He seems to be having a massive problem with confidence and touch.

There's no reason why we'd drop him as he is a useful presence in the forward line. However, given his lack of form I think it's incumbent on the coaching staff to recognise this and restructure the forward line to focus on Hall less.

of course it does, whats worse is when a forward line doesnt fight to keep it in there. missed shots whilst they effect the team you usually have a few players that keep the heads up.
