just some thoughts when, how and what we need to do to get one coz on saturday i sat back and really thought that cood of been us if we wanted it bad enough.

GO SAINTS!!!! 09

to get a flag we have to get rid of our fringe players and players we are hanging onto just because they have potential a hard line has to be drawn that will see a few tears but its the only way to get results....

ie. dal, kozi, x, leigh fisher traded for high picks or hard at the ball midfielders that run hard all day

Artimitrage mcevoy have to be played at every opportunity when they are availible select them need as many games into these players not have them starting to outta their shells in a few years when again we will be turning over players like max, lenny, bakes, king etc

players like jones, eddy cannot be walk up starting players like they are now they need to be pushed to the point where they are players fillingin when players injured our second string players... they work really hard but arent going to win us a premiership

3 to 4 years if we trade this year for youngsters and is our better players are still around. Our window was the previous 2 Prelims

This is not trolling but you guys need a clean out. People have massively overrated the Saints list for the past couple of years. Any team where Raphael Clarke can get a game and Nick Del Santo is a top tier midfielder will never win a flag.

I still think that many people are very narrow minded that they cannot think beyond the list. If the team plays badly the list is no good. If the team plays well they are all champions.
To me an important part of winning finals is getting the playing group to play effectively as a team. A good team almost seems to know where the other players are and what they are doing without looking. A group of individuals, no matter how talented will struggle to beat a good team, and IMO Saints have not had a good "team" for a couple of years now. I am still not sure what Ross Lyons game plan is, but I have to trust that it is a good one and that the players can come to grips with it. Otherwise we won't be winning for some time!

We cleaned out Guerra and that came back and bit us. Similarly if Nick Dal Santo was playing for the Hawks, he would be just as useful for you as Osbourne is. Our midfield depth is not great and we sorely missed some of our hardest tackling players when they were injuered this year.

The highest that the Saints were overrated was some people expecting them to challenge the Cats ( and the Hawks ). This was generally before Gehrig was found to be injured and ineffective, and before Maguire was re-injured for the season. We ended up a clear 4th. Maybe if we ended up 9th you could say we were massively overated. If I took Roughead out of the Hawks for the season would the Hawks have been as effective?

Hawks won the flag and credit to them, I for one enjoyed seeing it. But don't get too arrogant and start thinking that a lot of things don't have to go right for you to win it.

Team went alright in 04 and 05 with half the team out with injuries... :thumbsd:

That was half a decade ago, move on!!!
Saints will not win a flag for at least 50 years.

The Hawks had a full team to choose from. Again, we were missing 6 from our best line up.

Just enjoy your flag and piss off you donkey........

will be a while before we get a flag we do need a bit of a cleanout hopefully we can do what hawthorn did and get one in 4 years

Exactly! :-) Wasnt trying to be condesceding or put St Kilda down with my post before but I honestly believe a clean out is needed and a big one. Will do the side wonders

A clean out of what exactly, donk?

Just slash & burn and hope the players are inspired by this?

What part of Raph Clarke getting 25 possessions against Collingwood in a final, and then backing up with another 25 against Hawthorn didn't you rate? Does this say something about the Saints or the opposition?

And why wouldn't "Del" be part of the on-ball division at any club?

Well done to the Hawks for picking up Guerra and Dew, but hardly a recipe for other clubs to follow.

If it looks like a troll, and smells like a troll, it probably is a troll.

Squizz is that you sticking up for Raph? Next thing I'll log on and see you saying nice things about Gwilt.

I know!

But the comment made, which implied Raph could not possibly be the 22nd picked player in a good team, is a contrast to his finals performances.

I would say I can handle Gwilt as a backup player in the forward pocket (just not in defence), but don't want people to fall off their chairs.

Two good games doesn't make up for years of underperforming. He just doesn't cut it. Del would probably get a game at most clubs not denying that but if an inconsistent midfielder (how many touches a game and how many are contested?) is your elite midfielder it's time for a clean out. You got smashed in two finals with a MUCH older list than the teams you played. Not trying to be rude mate just telling the truth.

If you asked most people who had any knowlege to name an elite StKilda midfielder most would probably name Luke Ball or Lenny Hayes at the top of the list. Some who are not up with the latest would name Harvey. Some who are would name Brendon Goddard.
Nick Dal Santo enjoys a very high profile , probably due to his footy show appearances. The fact that you think that he is our elite midfielder shows that your don't know much about the Saints.

Donk - champ - fella - knackers. Please don't confuse your opinion with the truth. Hawthorn winning the flag does not provide its supporters with super powers to dissect other teams. If you can perform at AFL after a bout of epilipsy following a back problem then maybe I'll pay more attention. "Del's" tackle and contested ball count was up this year - where are you going other than round in circles? We got smashed by better teams who played off in the GF - not sure what your point is. Older list - by what measure? Geelong has a very experienced list. I love a bloke who does his homework - the average age of the Geelong team was the same as ours (including Harvey). Nice work!!!

I like you Squizzy:thumbsu: Sorry for trolling your board. Just trying to give an opinion. Cya

think we need to get a better recruiter cant see us winning the flag for a few years hopefully we will get one in the next 10 years.

That's not all it's smelling like...

Didn't take long for some Hawks to become arrogant trolls like Geelong, now did it...?

Losing culture, no flag for a long time. Dal santo is a hang out, i can't think of one player who would get into our team. clarke is a dud, both of them, i am happy when they are named to play against the hawks as there is a good chance one will do a hammy. your best forward spends 80% Of the game running around the wing and then went missing in the finals (surprised he didn't cry like a few years back). harvey was selfish, the only reason he could last so long in the modern game is because he never put his head over the ball. the whole list needs a rebuild or they should do everyone a favour and relocate to tasmania.
