Mick Maguane gets linked to our club a bit in recent times but how come you guys have showed no interest??? - none that has been reported anyway.

His record in the country is quite amazing. Leigh Mathews who would know his feats as a player better than anyone also knocked him back for an assistant in Brisbane. Must admit to being curious as to what he has done up in the country as its quite amazing when you look at it. Are you looking at Crosisca also who has been let loose from the Hawks?

may have something to do with the manner in which he left the club, and its no coincidence that leigh matthews was coach at the time.

I am not sure that he is up to AFL standards, currently he has coached well in 2 minor leagues. His job at the Dockers was nothing short of amazing, he built up a club from nothing to a Premership side. They are have won I think 4 in a row.

But I don't know if he would make a good assistant coach in the AFL though.

Rumor on DeepThroat suggested that he was in line for a few of the VFL coaching positions, and when one club was waiting for an interview, he was found in the pokies...

Rumor or fact...
I have no idea, but unfortunately for Mick, he has a serious history of gambling and alcohol abuse.

May be a great coach, but if these concerns are still relevant, then would you want him developing your young players??

Who is this Mick Magaune you speak of?

Mick was one of the most undisciplined players you would ever see. He survived on pure football ability and he was a genious at it, he was one of the most gifted players you could ever watch.
Off the field he was a disaster and he had no regard for the rules that most of us live by. At his last training session at Carlton he turned up 'tired and emotional' drinking bourbon from a can - they sacked him soon after.

How then could a guy like that tell elite young footballers that he would coaching they need to be disciplined and to do all the "right things in life" when he had no regard for them himself.

You might say "well he has learned his lesson" and that might be true, but the perception will always remain.

Who gives a stuff about his ups and downs at the end of his career??!!? Thats life! People everywhere get ********ed and emotional. Theres people having breakdowns in all facets of life. Get your head away from the computer screen for a few hours and take a look at the real world.

No player in their right mind wouldnt respect the bloke for the champion he was, and his genius football brain.

discipline is a big thing in football. You cant' expect someone, who had little discipline throughout his career, to be able to have his players disciplined at afl level.

yep sure. just look at the old greats who used to go round wacking people. That aint discipline but was only a part of their game and theyre still considered champions because of their FOOTBALLING ABILITY.

Mick will never get a gig because of his reputation and his history with gambling and alcohol problems. His credability is virtually non exsistant in AFL circles and even tho Wallace intimated he may be a possible assistant in waiting, word has it that tiger officialdom quickly quelled the prospect of any job offer.

Its a typical case of having burnt way too many bridges. Similarly a few years back Phil Carman's SANFL and country coaching record was next to stellar but he too suffered from a similar problem to that of Micks.

Dont know if I would want him around our kids even tho I must say i loved the dude as a player.

wacking was pretty much part of the game back then

being considered champions, and being fit to coach afl football are 2 different stories.

im not saying that he's not good enough to coach afl, im just saying that its understandable that he's having trouble finding a job despite his performance in the district leagues
