Talking about players like Broughton, Riewoldt & Didak for example

When do you cut your losses and move on? If these guys hadn't fallen off the face of the earth my ranking would be much higher than it currently is.

When there's someone good around the same price to trade to. I'd hang on to N. Riewoldt, and I don't know that there's anyone to trade Didak to. Broughton you can probably find someone but I think it might be a bit late. I had to offload Vince and Joel MacDonald last year but you really want to do it ASAP. By now they've probably dropped too far to be worth the trade - it might be worth waiting for them to get a 100 in their rolling average and treat them as a midpricer.

you keep them - unless they are injured. You can't afford to sideways trade after the first 2-3 weeks (this year maybe four weeks with the byes).
Don't forget a lot of people have the same players - so your ranking wouldn't really change that much.

With the premiums/guns - you keep them for the year

What about Burgoyne?

I wouldn't have thought that at the start of the season Burgoyne would have been expected to have finished in the top 10 mids - so not sure he is a premium/gun? More an expensive midpriced player?

to eloquently put it, you are "stuffed"

at least this year i only have ba***** child didak, besides isn't the winning average something like 2290?

last year that figure would have been around 2450 at the same point, with the winner around 2350 at seasons end.

The scoring this year has had a greater spread with many quasi-premiums and hardly any ultra premiums.

If you have carefully studied the stats you will notice that many rookies have performed really well this year leaving us awash with cash but few genuine "locks" for their spots.

so didak/riewoldt aren't much of a big problem, just bench them and quickly upgrade the midfield. it will become clearer when you have around 14-12 trades who the ultra premium 2 backs and 2 fwds you will need to trade in.

that will leave you nice and comfy with 8-6 trades for "problems" nearing rd 14-17.

mt likely something like this will see you top 5000 by years end which isn't too shabby at all.

Have bitten the bullet on two premiums due to poor form.

Cameron Bruce sent packing before Round 4 @ $440,600 (down from 497k)
Brad Green gone before Round 5 @ $409,400 (down from $469k)

I think I get scared when I know a player still has a $50k+ drop.

And I taught Judd_Magic how to trade, sooooo......

Kidding yourself if you think these guys are 'premium'.

Just be thankful you don't have Brad Green.
Like me :( Hopeless spud!!! Tapscott & Darling are doing better...
Looking forward to upgrading him later in the season to a non-shithouse player; or maybe he might step up to his form from last year :)

Yeah I had to trade Bruce as well and my thinking was pretty much the same. When they have dropped a lot and it's at the point where they still have one or two big drops left in them (at which times they won't be worth enough to do anything with them) it's time to bite the bullet.

Bruce; defender coming off averages of 102, 98, 96, 105 & 106.
Green; forward coming off 2/3 years of averaging 95+.

Perhaps Bruce moreso, but both made reasonable claims for 'premium' status in 2011.

I think the differences this year (which perhaps there were signs before the season or some question marks anyway) that they wouldn't do as well this year.
Green - was quoted as saying would spend more time up forward this year then previously.
Bruce - Moving to a stronger club was always going to be risky in reducing the impact he had on games.

Obviously hindsight plays a part!

Keeping Roo and Broughts, I can be happy with them as F7 and D7 respectively.. Not ideal but they'll come good. Can't waste trades on them without injury.

Don't think Broughton has been all that bad. Riewoldt and Didak however....

I guess if you were looking to jump off, it would have to be fairly quick before they drop too much in value. With the price Didak and Riewoldt are at now, anyone looking to offload them now would be crazy now to be honest. They are quality players in a form slump that could end up turning it around.

But what would you do with them if you were looking to cut your losses? Suppose you could always downgrade Didak to a rookie and use the money to upgrade to a player in good form and averaging a lot more. Sort of a 1 step back, 2 steps forward sort of scenario. But you'd no doubt be kicking yourself if Didak turns it around.

Personally, i'd probably hang onto them and if i had a few luxury trades laying around come finals time i'd probably end up looking at my options then. lol.

Duffield has got to go!
Boak was annoying until this week.
Roo is very frustrating.
And interchanging Tappy with Darling every week is killing me!
Also traded Higgins for Chappy he has since scored 85 and 70 WTF?

May as well stick with them as they are bound to improve, and chances are the guy you replace them with could turn into a spud too. If you have spare trades/cash towards the end of the season then use it to bring in someone who's actually performing.

I've got serious backline problems and my forward line is not amazing.
Backs Include: B. Smith, P. Puopolo, C. Pedersen and J. Toy
Forwards Include: N. Riewoldt, B. Green, D. Petrie, L. Tapscott, J. Darling, B. Matera and S. McKernan
:S

Yeah, thought Green played a fair bit of time in the forward line last year, which actually tipped him over the line and into my side.

And Bruce was my attempt at being unique, given everyone had Lids. :o

I started with Bruce, but quickly cut my losses and traded him down to Suckling before any price changes.

Suckling turning into a potential premium, and pocketed 270K in the process. Gold

What about Burgoyne?

l have him a dump pick my me because he is just a mid in SC if he was a mpp mid/forward now he's price would be alright.l also have broughon but l want to fix my mids up first then backline then forward line.
