Since the trading period of 2001 when we *****ed off Dimma - we lost the spark. We turn up to 90% of our games and are flat for 3 quarters out of 4. We used to play with enthusiasm - now we just seem to go throught the motions every week.

I don't what the problem is but the coach has to take some responsibility and you can see he is trying to motivate them, but he just doesn't seem to be able to do it consistently.

Bring back TD - he is a clubman and a great influence on the players - every club he has been with has performed exceptionally well - Ess 1999-2001, Coll 2002-2003, St.K 2004

See a link - bring back TD!!

I haven't been watching footy or Essendon that long, but I'm not sure there is a club in the competition that seems to lose more games that they should have won, out of sheer disinterest.

Carlton - well documented. Both games in 2001, and once last year when they finished 15th. Even when we beat them we look like we run in second gear most of the time.

North Melbourne - every game we have played against them since the comeback. Such was a similar way in which they were all lost that if you watched the replays of all three in a row, they'd seem like one game.

Richmond last year, about Round 7 or 8. Then we played them again and blew them out of the water for a half, then relaxed in the second half.

Most interstate matches over this period.

These losses have been the difference between finishing in or out of the Top 4. This year, they might keep us out of the eight altogether.

It ****s me to tears that we are not switched on against supposedly 'easy ' teams, we've all seen these players start from teenagers and we know they can play great football, but sheeds seems to be in denial about some of his players form. D.Hille is softer that shane woewodin. He is so infuriatingly bad sometimes...but on the other he always shows a little flash he may be coming of age...then he goes back into his shell.

i think we need to trade one of our small backs for another midfielder.

We have McVeigh,Welsh,MJ and Solly.

NONE of them are midfielders, but they are great at their preffered possie Small Defender.

Thats why i think one of them could be expendable?

Agreed - am a big fan of Cupes - but if one player is requred for spark then we are still in trouble because what happens when he gets injured. Oh wait this season is what happens.

Someone said this to me and I am statring to believe it - when Hird fires we fire - duh you say - but hear me out. When Hird plays well all the players seem to grow a leg, but when he is down on form - we seem flat and disinterested. Of course when he doesn't play we are flat and disinterested.

We need TD and we need a new coach - since one of the two is impossible, lets hope the other happens.

i don't see why we need a new coach

sheedy's method of rebuilding while we're still performing is sure to have a casualty year every now and then...just because we're not winning a premiership every year doesn't mean we need a new coach who would have to start from scratch. Lets not forget the impact sheedy has had as a public icon for essendon, meanwhile doing as much for football as he has for essendon.

Sheedy's great, he is perhaps the greatest contributer to essendon of all time. He's been at the club longer than i've been alive, he's done extraordinary things for the club and the club's regular appearances in the finals alongside great membership numbers prove this. However 25 years is a long time especially for an afl coach. I think with our list the way it is (ie. few great leaders mixed with a whole bag of emerging talents), it was the perfect time to adopt a new coach. In three year's time, when we will have to find another coach, a lot of our more experienced players will be nearing retirement and so we will be in the situation of having a new coach and also a relatively inexperienced side. This really could be a bad result...
