Where will Bowden play this year?

i would mainly play him across half back, would throw him forward occasionally, (dont know why spud never played him there) with him not having to play on the best couple of forwards will release him to be more damaging.

Wallace will most likely play him on a half-back flank as a running type defender. Maybe a loose man in defense. With the run-carry type of style we're expecting from Wallace, he'd give us some good run off half-back. Midfield every now and then. Maybe on a forward flank as well. He does have a nice long left foot kick, which can definitely come in handy up forward.

HB, loose man in defence and a lil midfeild time.

Agree with that. Chaffey has being developed as a tagger so it would leave Joel to play that loose man in defence role and provide run out of the backline.

A lot of others have talked about him as being a possible FF for us which I wouldn't mind seeing either.

I don't expect Schulz will simply get thrown into the position, I'm sure Joel will still play a fair bit at CHB, but will probably stay mostly in defence in a leadership role

I for one believe that there are no set positions that must be filled. ie., if all sides lined up as on paper, there would be 6 defenders, 6 midfielders and 6 forwards. This obviously does not happen.

I would think that Schulz, Gaspar, Kellaway and Graham would be given jobs on tall fowards while Bowden would play across the Half Back Line as a Quarter Back type player.

Joel's kicking will give us drive from the HB line. Hopefully the next line of players will then be able to move the ball forward quickly under TW, therefore not making our inside 50 look like a Japanese shopping centre clogged with people. Richo may only have to play on 4-5 players at a time if they improve there.

exactly bentleigh

i doubt very much wallace will take joel too far away from the role that he seemed to just explode into last season

Somewhere along half back, with a small midfield role when needed as has been said. I agree tigerT, I doubt he'll be taken far from his role last season. And why should he, after the very good season he had.

JACK Dyer medallist Joel Bowden says he is happy to move aside for young tall Jay Schulz to be trialled at centre half-back this year. Bowden enjoyed a stunning year in 2004 playing as a key defender but is likely to be more adaptable under new coach Terry Wallace.
"We have spoken about it and he (Wallace) wants to see me playing in a couple of different positions," Bowden said.
"Considering that I was playing well there (centre half-back), I might spend a bit of time there.
"I will probably play half-back, midfield and a little bit forward.
"To get our team's scoring average up we need to kick goals. 'Richo' (Matthew Richardson) did his job, but we need four or five guys to kick 20 goals (for the season)."
