Ross and McAuliffe wouldn't get a game in the top 14 or so teams and Hopper wouldn't get a game in the top 4 or 5.

That's where we are at.

Round 1 we will get slaughtered out of the middle.

De Koning, Cripps, Sam Walsh, Jagga Smith
vs
Sampson Ryan, Hopper, Ross, McAuliffe.

What a load of crap lol
You didn’t mention Taranto, Prestia and Lalor as midfield options either. We almost beat them round 1 last year

Convenient that you listed Carlton’s best midfielders against all our fringe midfielders to support your opinion. I agree with you about the players you’ve mentioned but your tainting the comparisons here.

No TT , Prestia, Hopper or new Draftees. That comparison is not likely to ever occur.
Those 3 mids are ssssslllloooowwwwww and will be equally cut apart.

And apart from Lalor who will be played in the fed line, none of our draftee mids will be fit or ready round 1.

Speed doesn’t matter in the midfield. Little Smithy will face a bigger challenge than the local VFL boys when he comes up against Taranto, Hopper and Prestia. If we stop Cripps winning the ball and distributing to space, we’ll be fine. We won the clearances last time with predominantly Nank, Hopper and Taranto in the midfield.

The reality is if Nank, Hopper and Taranto play most of the season, the midfield will be the least of our worries.

If we stay injury free to Lynch we're a massive shot at a surprising ladder position. We won't though and I'll just be happy to finish above West Coast and North.

we'll win round 1 but wont win another game for the rest of the season

TT is alway fit. I don’t disagree that our midfield is ordinary at best but you chose the absolute worst of the midfielders to support your argument. Tainting comparisons. Plus you have no idea, like the rest of us, who is fit.

Backline & midfield is basically OK. We've been a shitshow up fwd for 2 seasons. Went from a team that kicked 14.5 goals a game 2022 to a team that kicked 9.2 goals a game in 2024.

We left Van Rooyen on the table, for another medium defender Brown, when Jack R was ageing. Then couldn't find good FA KPF. end of 2023. JVR 40 game player a 1.4 goal a game player.
2023, Miller, Pickett pinch hitting for Lynch was rubbish.

2024 Balta, Ryan, Kosi, Lefau, Bauer, Brown for a game or 2. Ryan wasn't quite good enough. Kosi 0.9 goals/game.

2025 too many untried KPFs. Whoever plays will kick a goal a game... Bauer's good but brittle.
Lynch plays all year & kicks 1 ~2 goals a game, we win more.

Replacing Bolton's 1.5 goals? Need more from Mansell, MRJ, Greene types...Alger?

West Coast won 5 games kicking 10.0 goals a game.

60 Inside 50s last game 2024 with prestia, Hopper & Taranto for 10 goals. Need to replace Dow for starters... Jack Graham was good at lowering his eyes hitting targets.
D Rioli sprint off half back was immense.
Get a full season out of Hopps will improve us.

just a reminder that were not as shit as last year indicated. brutal.

Yeah that’s true for our 2024 list (when we had the 4th-oldest list), but our average experience and age this year looks like this:
IMG_8178.jpeg

So perhaps we are actually going to be 18th-level bad this year with or without significant injuries.
Our core experienced group consists of Lynch, Taranto, Hopper, Broad, Prestia, Nankervis, Vlastuin, McIntosh, Short, and Balta. Yikes, that doesn’t look good at all.

Lynch, Hopper, and Prestia are good/decent (in the case of Hopper) but injury-prone. Nankervis, Short, and Balta are good when in top form but are inconsistent. McIntosh? Ain’t all that. Taranto is good at getting the ball but let’s us down with his disposals.

Only Broad and Vlastuin are consistently good and on the park. Even then, Broad didn’t have his best season last year.

Realistically, I don’t think this core group will take us out of the bottom 2. They’d all have to play consistently and have enough good games to carry our team.

Alternatively, we could rise if our draftees to hit the ground running while our 2nd-3rd year players markedly improve on last year. It could happen, but it is unlikely. I see another 18th-placed finish unless West Coast spectacularly implodes.

I reckon 17th but I really don’t care.
I am so looking forward to the season much more than I have for about 4 years, just a great fresh start.

We have a really soft draw with double ups…

North, WC, St Kilda, GC and Essendon twice. We also play Geelong twice in the second half of the year, and there are no guarantees their aging list holds up.

We also get a lot of the easier games later in the season… rounds 9, 10 & 11; WC, North & Essendon for the first time.

While things may not go our way, it is more likely our team will improve towards the middle and latter stages as we get an idea of our best 23. There’s also the chance of a couple ACL players returning as early as those games (Lefau).

here come the loosers barracking for a bottom 4 finish

no wonder we were crap for 35 years
We all hope we are going to win the flag.

The fact of the matter is that is impossible.

We will be lucky to get out of the bottom 2, maybe if the saints have an injury crisis.

What good is there in finishing 10th, and restricting our high end talent in-take? Slow our rebuild, and not get access to a Dyson Sharp or Fred Rodriguez.

Who cares. Clubs in a full blown rebuild. I just want to see development of our next wave coming through. Games into the young ones (but not gifted)

Would love to see Lynch get 14-18 games under his belt for the year. Would be a huge benefit to the younger forwards to play and learn from him. People forget how bloody good he is.
