I am worried about facing Hawthorn in a final.

They're 3-2 against Geelong since the start of the 00's and the last finals encounter was 2016. Cats needed Isaac Smith to miss a set shot after the siren to secure a preliminary final berth.

I want to avoid that mob at all costs. Be preferable to face Gold Coast in Melbourne first up.
We ran you very close earlier in the year in a cracking game. No reason it can't go the same way if we meet in finals. We have arguably got stronger since especially more height up forward which will help mitigate your talls and intercepting defenders or at least that would be the plan.

Their ability to be a fly in the ointment is irritating. Granted.
But what is looking like the alternative atm is Brisbane (MCG) week one and if we lose then GWS or WB/Fre week 2.

So I'd happily take Hawthorn over the two clubs we're a combined 0-4.
I feel if Hawthorn were to beat Brisbane the more likely outcome would be Gold Coast in 3rd.

Average difficulty, just like your team.
Hawks double ups: Carlton, Port Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Collingwood, Adelaide

WB double ups: North Melbourne, Fremantle, Brisbane, St Kilda, Greater Western Sydney, Essendon
Avg ladder position:
Hawks: 7.83
WB: 9.66
Brisbane: 6.33
Adelaide: 10.83

Top 9 versus bottom 9 is about 90% this year. A match against St Kilda or Port or Carlton is functionally the same as a match against North.

If you really want to argue that there’s a meaningful difference between bottom-9 teams, try listing the net wins of double-up opponents. The difference between 9th and 11th is bigger than the difference between 11th and 17th.

carlton is as bad as west coast ? riggggghhhhttt

For a top-9 team, the result is the same
in fact all the bottom 9 teams hqawks played twice had wins and close losses against top 9 teams

Melbourne: beat freo + bris. lost to gws by 3, coll by 1, dogs by 6
Port: beat hawks + gws, lost to freo by 6, crows by 5
Carlton: beat cats, lost to dogs by 8

How did your double up bottom teams fare agaist the top 9?
Nth: drew with lions, lost by 6 to freo
Port see above
Weagles: lost to crows by 9

Hawks double ups beat 5 top 9 teams and had 6 close losses to them
Adelaides double ups beat 3 drew 1 4 close losses

If you think that is equivalent difficulty then you dont know statistics

Maybe, but you make your own luck a bit in footy IMO.

I reckon as soon as you're relying on opposition results to get somewhere, you're generally a pretty ordinary side.

Will say though, the Dockers are unlucky that they picked this bizarro year to win 15 games. The fact they still could miss out on that total is pretty crazy.

This 15 wins thing is being overstated.

In a year where the bottom 9 aren't complete trash, they would have won only won 11-12 games.

It's not a legit 15 win year this season.

Our draws been pretty standard. Played most of the good sides away which hasn't helped.

Are you not entertained though?

Probably not
Yeah at least Angeball was entertaining, JLoBall is just nail bitingly frustrating - I’m cursed to be both a Freo and a Spurs fan lol.

No, I was not entertained on Friday night… in actual fact, I haven’t entertained much this season except for last quarters. Instead of putting in professional 4 quarter performances like every other top 8 side does, we play like crap for half the game and then try to win a close one late.

It’s left us in a position where our percentage sucks and we’ll miss out on the 8 on 15 wins.

How ****ing easy has the Bulldog draw been? Absolute bullshit the amount of shit teams they’ve played

They are flat track bullies

Don’t deserve to be playing finals at all.
Happened last year too, and in 2022. Footage of their players cheering for another team (Collingwood) to win and Carlton to lose - so they could scrape into the finals. Bunch of frauds.

It's insane!! Every year they need other sides results to fall their way in the final round to make it and they always float around 8th, 9th, 10th!! Rack off losers.

This year they have to win - hopefully Freo can rise.
We are the worst team to rely on to win a one off game to make finals, there are several other example in our clubs history of us having to simply win our last game of the season to qualify and we always lose... I fail to see this week being any different and am already preparing myself for the eventuality that Freo finish 9th.

That's easier than going in once again with hope, only to be let down yet again. Dogs will make the 8, then exit with a whimper week 1, naturally.

Melbourne 97
Port 2005? And 2007, those teams u lost to when you could have made the 8?

Such a confidently clueless post. By the conclusion of the season, Hawthorn will have played fellow top 9 teams 11 times. The Bulldogs too will have played top 9 teams...11 times.

If you look further into the distribution of true home ground advantage in those matchups, according to the categories of home/neutral/away, then it can roughly (we can quibble over the category of a game or two) be conceived as follows:

Hawthorn v Top 9: 3 home, 4 neutral, 4 away
Bulldogs v Top 9: 3 home, 2 neutral, 6 away

Where is this great fixture advantage enjoyed by the bulldogs compared to a team like Hawthorn?

How?

Anyway yeah, but the difference being - the Bulldogs lost all their games to all the top 9 teams - lost them all!!!

any top 9 team that isn't GWS (won both of those)

They beat GWS twice.

But regardless of that, I get 2016 Dogs vibe from this team.

Literally any top 8 team can win it this year. There is no super team that is a level above the rest, hence why they are all so close on the ladder in premiership points. The Dogs are in good form, will probably beat Freo and are going to be a huge danger in September. I'd rather play anyone else but them in week 1 to be honest.

On our double ups we have played only GWS at home

Our home Game against Brisbane was away in Adelaide in 35 degree heat after returning from Freo in Perth in about the same heat.

Adelaide and Hawthorn at home are our 2 losses at Marvel

Geelong at Geelong
Collingwood at the G
Gold Coast in Darwin

After we play Freo it will be 4 Marvel and 7 away against the contenders.
