Re- watching True Detective Season 1 and just finished episode 5.

I forgot how good is is. It’s peak television.

One thing I had forgotten that really amused me on this viewing is that when Marty gets kicked out of home for cheating his wife left his clothes at the front door for him. In the scenes after that every time you see Marty he’s wearing ill fitting clothes from when he was a teenager/young adult and Star Wars t-shirts etc. Pretty funny
Close to the best TV series ever

Just finished True Detective series 2. Exhausted.

I liked Vince Vaughn. There was a lot of smoking but in all these types of shows there’s a lot of it. Also I can’t believe the drinking! Maybe I’ve led too sheltered a life 😛

Re-watched some of S1 on the plane heading O/S. That Alexandra Daddario scene, phenomenal but awks on a plane 😂

The Studio (Apple) - was never a huge Seth Rogen fan until I saw him in the Fabelmans where I thought he was good.

Co creator and main star on this one about his character being appointed head of a movie studio. Have watched first four eps so far and really liked it and funny with some great lines that can be missed in fast action. Episodes 2 & 3 were excellent and shot in one go. Ep 2 especially so well done.

Cranston with some cameos so far been his usual brilliant best ..apparently plays a bigger role in later eps. Looking forward to finishing this off

If you haven't already, watch Mad Men. The blokes in that went through their whole lives at least half sloshed. Every office had a drinks trolley with a seemingly bottomless whiskey decanter.

Jeez those god-botherers were hard work. I never did watch the end - hopefully none of them won.

Ive seen a few of these shows and all the ones that make it the end .
I dont want any of them to win.
They all flogs , maybe the way it's edited.

Adolescence

Fantastic, hard hitting mini series about social media influence and parenting.

8.5/10

It was very well produced propaganda. The British Prime Minister stood up in Parliament and claimed Adolescence is a 'documentary' that justifies legislation to restrict everyone's online access.

White boys from good families are not being influenced by Andrew Tate to go round stabbing people. The real story was based on a nutcase from Uganda who was neglected by his parents.

I took it to be about online and other bullying as the main message, not misogyny.

I may be confusing you with another poster but it seems like every time this show is mentioned, you rush in to minimise it, while letting the very valid points it makes sail right over your head. There is a toxic male culture online and it’s an issue well worth addressing through fiction.

Is it their whiteness that makes them less violent?

Correlation does not imply causation. But from the study below -

Most of the victims and the perpetrators of these (knife) crimes were Black or Asian, especially young people aged 10 to 25.

Also from that article.

Knife crime is linked to individual risk factors like gender; age; ethnicity, financial deprivation, and socio-economic background; exposure to violence and prior victimisation; mental illness and drug addiction; low educational attainment and exclusion from mainstream education. Family background and adverse childhood experiences; lack of accessible alternative activities; gang involvement and territoriality; deprivation, and violence are also risk factors at the interpersonal and community level.

The boy in Adolescence didn't have those risk factors. Yet, Kier Starmer stood up in Parliament and claimed the show was a documentary.

No, it's him. You're not confusing him with anyone else.

He also has issues with women's sport.

I thought S4 was ok, truly despised S2 though.

1 > 3 > 4 > daylight > inanimate carbon rod > 2.

I haven’t watched S2 in years, but can remember not actually enjoying it as I kept comparing it to the flawless S1. A re-watch is in order I think.

Inadvertently started watching 24 yet again lol,
Finished season 1 tonight and managed to watch the first episode of season 2 just before midnight.

2 episodes Sunday
3 Monday
3 Tuesday
1 Wednesday (I was really tired lol)
6 episodes Thursday
10 episodes Friday

Not the fastest I've binged a 24 season (3 days is my record). But I still get a rollercoaster ride from it.
Better Call Saul.

Why it's taken me this long to get into it has been beat but I had been missing out.

Might have to give BB a re-watch once I'm done too.

I might do the Breaking Bad - Better Call Saul double series re-watch in April/May. Skipped it last year after watching both for the first time in 2024.

I remember reading somewhere that they actually toned down the drinking compared to what it was really like back then because they thought everyone would assume that they were exaggerating. Maybe that goes for the interoffice 'romancing' as well
