Which young freo star will have a breakout year in 2012?

Pitt, Michie, Clarke, Walters, Suban...etc

Last year was Nathan Fyfe, who do you think it will be this year?

Without his injury problems I would have said Michie - really promising. Think it might be Clarke - has all the tools and can cause some havoc this year.

For me Suban. Will become one of the best rebounders in the comp. Plus a young bloke will take over Ballas small forward role, maybe Lachie?

I certainly hope not. I don't want any LTI's this season.

I could not agree more. The only thing is that Morabito may take a little longer to come up than we expected. I would rather take it slow and steady with a quality player like that than the way the previous coach used to run the show.

Obviously I'll say Mora, but from some of the reports sounds like Lachie Neale might just be the smokey. Lyon rates him, Ballas in the midfield time he might be a good fit for small forward.

Yeah this. Still our most exciting young player and I reckon he'll break a fair few games apart this year, will average in excess of 20 touches a game and roughly a goal a game, don't think that's beyond him at all :thumbsu:

Oh yeah, and Sutcliffe obviously.

I hope they all do, but really - Pitt (should say in particular). I'm gonna be honest. I've bagged this kid heaps and as much as I think he has good skills I just don't see him becoming a gun. I won't mention what we should have got but now that I have I think it's obvious. I want to be proven wrong. I'd LOVE to be proven wrong.

All the best Pitt, hope you turn out fantastic and make me look like a typical stupid bigfooty poster.

I think the question should be young players, 2012 should be equal to 2010 with too many players to pick from in form.
Playing for Freo should be earned, too many players in the past were given a free ride.
Mellington, Clarke, have had a taste of AFL, and I expect to explode under Lyon.

I believe Michie will be a slider in the group and will be a borderline resigning. The 2011/2012 intake will push Viv back towards the back of the pack and we will of spent two years wondering what could of been. With the next couple of drafts being strong the non performers will be squeezed out very quickly.

He showed enough last pre season that he probably he would have been in our best 22 heading into round 1. I'm sure once he's over his inury and provided it doesn't hamper him in the future, that the club will keep him.

In terms of list management we are likely to have say 5 picks. Plus perhaps 2 rookie upgrades (Roberts and Spurr perhaps). MacPharlin and Sandi to the Vet List.

Without getting into too much discussion here about that, I would think some of the young players will be scrutinised as the vacancies won't all come from retirements.

Big Calls on Grover, McPhee, Anthony, Crowley, Bradley, van Berlo if they are not well performed in the best 22 on a regular basis.

For Viv's sake I hope your right but things have changed at the club and there is a greater demand on the playing group in all aspects. Viv will need a very quick turn around to force his way up into our 22. If he's not careful he will be left eating dust caused by others speeding past.

Gee, if you're right our playing group will really be flying, given he's only entering his second season on the list. I'm sure, however, that Michie will be given time to get over the injury and pursue his career. As noted, it will be the fringe group of 25-28 year olds who will come under pressure at year's end, when hopefully we'll be considering what pieces to add to make us a top four team.

The idea that we are going to delist promising players after 2 seasons (so that we can recruit other promising young players) at the same time as we recruit mature players like Barlow and Spurr seems at odds. For sure those guys were on the rookie list, but if our young guys are not progressing well then we need to look at our talent identification and development programs.

This will be a fact of life, some will make it some won't no matter how good the scouting is.

Yes of course, but there are definitely ways of measuring how successful those things are. From outside of the club the failures that we have had with first round draft picks, which now must include Palmer, would certainly be a concern with massive ramifications on our planning for list development. All of us are looking forward to seeing if it has been turned around with Hill, Mora etc. Likewise the historical inability to develop KPP's that we have drafted is massive handicap.

Palmer won the rising star and was poached from us from a rival club. We recieved a first round as compensation.

How must that be classified as a failure?

I agree with this, but I think Palmer will do really well next year and would possibly still be here if We made the Harvey / Lyon switch earlier. I think he wasn't used well at all in 2011 and we could have gotten a lot more out of him.

That being said, I think Lower is a perfect replacement for Palmer and we got him for a rookie pick.

A late first rounder for a top 10 pick, Rising Star winner with 50 games under his belt would be disappointing. It is only acceptable because we failed in his development.

It was a failure because if he had continued to develop he is exactly the type of player we require.

I'm firmly of the belief that Palmer was gone as early as Nov 2010 (the GWS poaching period).
