Fair point, bad way to express it.

Valid point in that the way wages/IR is structured in Australia definitely needs a look. But definitely whinging at the same time. People aren't idiots they know it is expensive to hire workers/that penalty rates exist.
Strategy could easily backfire thou. Rather than coming to the table negotiating a workable solution the owner just dumped a massive bucket of sh&* over everything he disagreed with, including his customer base (workers) who would no doubt resent being told they deserve to have penalty rates scrapped without compensation.

Definitely makes a fair point, but expressing it in that manner isn't likely to get much traction or sympathy.

That said, some people make a habit of being Facebook heroes too.

They raise a valid point, however is it holiday rates or the amount of "red tape" tax they have to pay? This is apolitical, no government wants to fix it.

SME's get ****ing screwed in this country.

Or maybe it is not a good point at all, or at least it is deceptive.

Labour is the only cost at a premium because of the holiday. Other costs like rent, loan repayments, inventory (beer, food, cleaning gear, etc etc) utilities and so on do not go up because of the holiday.

Yet he wants to charge that same premium for all sales (all income). In reality he should discount the 275% premium to a more realistic factor that takes into account the fact that his non-labour costs stay the same on a public holiday. (Not to mention the probability of much higher sales volume in the first place given the higher number of potential customers that are not at work that day and likely to go to his pub.)

Any Adelaide posters know if the Bombay bicycle club have poker machines?

The sign was tongue in cheek and the complaints about the penalty rates may have some validity. The facebook post that went with a photo of the sign was ridiculously inflammatory though and is what caused all the drama, not the sign itself

He probably also triples his clientele on a public holiday.

Just a bit of a laugh. Who cares. As usual some overly sensitive people making a mountain out of a mole hill. That being said, I wouldn't do it for my business
