The AFL is making the team play in white shorts instead of an all purple strip on the weekend. Their reasoning is mystifying.

Fremantle was advised by the AFL that the decision was made “to present the match with the best possible distinction between the two team uniforms”, adding that it “seeks to avoid the introduction of another colour into a club’s uniform where possible”.

I'm all for common sense when it comes to white shorts on the team with white in their uniform, but this bugs me for a few reasons:

- it should be saved for occasions when the away team wearing white shorts would make them clash more with the home team, ie Carlton wearing white shorts against Geelong creates one big mishmash of white and dark blue when you could easily create one light team and one dark by swapping the shorts

-in this case it's impossible to create one light, one dark team because Essendon's pathetic excuse for for a clash jumper doesn't do the job it's supposed to. Given they can't do other clubs the courtesy of designing a real clash alternative why should other clubs have to compromise for them?

- Collingwood have far more white in their home strip than we do yet the AFL seem fine with letting them wear dark shorts. Weak and pathetic

- Why can't Essendon just wear ****ing red shorts?

It's not a big deal on its own, it's the inconsistency that's irritating. Not just on this issue, but pretty much every issue that pops up in the AFL.

I believe one of Confuscious' less famous sayings is 'inconsistency flows through the AFL like pig shit in the Yangtze'.

I don't know why Essendon just don't have a reversed alternate jumper, red with a black sash, looks traditional and would solve pretty much all their clash issues.
