Wouldnt need to spend as much money on Ottens, Carlton would probably be happy with Spriggs + Rahilly or Rooke.

Do you think he could do a Cameron Ling and lose some weight, convert fat into muscle and change his diet

If he could do that he would be the answer not a overpriced ruckman who would struggle to kick 40 goals

Blimey, now we are scraping the bottom of the barrel. If we cant get Ottens or Thomspon look at a good player in another position (e.g Bizzell if the $ amount is right) or just use out picks on kids like we have been.

Also I wanted to mention its easy to become complacent in an enviroment once you have established yourself. If he came to geelong I believe he be under preassure to fit the norm and pull his weight and shed some pounds

My Point is as a Junior and in his early days at Carlton he did somthing better than both Ottens and Thompson and that was taking pack marks and kicking regular bags

What he has become now is a fat lazy slob, perhaps he could change his ways and recapture his old form

I wouldn't.

If we miss out on Ottens - NO Thompson, NO Whitnall, NO Dixon, NO insert any other over paid hack that plays in the forward line.

We would be better off putting Lonergan/Playfair/Spencer/Blake/Byrnes at full forward for an extended period, giving them a fair chance to perform, and see how they go.

I would see Lance as our 2nd choice after Otto. We would have to give up more than Spriggs / Rooke /Rahilly though. I would think our pick 16 would be about right.

Byrnes at FF?

There is no doubt Lance would be a risk. His star has fadded more than Ottens but I suspect that he still has some footy left in him at the right club.
Would he be the perfect fit no.Would he be an improvement.?
Here is the things that would attract me for the right price
The thing is there is no doubt at the same age as the players mentioned he was already an established senior player borderline star. Why? He has more football talent than any of the above.Thats not to say they can not develop into a reasonable player but Whitnal is more than a reasonable player who needs to develop fitness and/or discipline. If the man could just do a Bob Hawke , make a pact.Swear of it for the sake a goal. Say to himselve" Right, Ive got 5 years in football left. For the next five years Im on the salad etc."
I know he has has a bit of a dodgy set of pins, well he simply must reduce the weight on them.Take a look at Voss, his knee is RS and has been for several years. He has got the most out of what he has.
The other thing is the style of player he is would suit our style more than the current Blue style.Just think about this.Whitnal is not dismilar to KK in the way they play.KK had at least 100 chances to score goals this year of which he got around 50 A fit Whitnall would have got around 70 from the same chances just because he is smarter, is stronger overhead and is better at conversion. So a relacement of KK with Lance would be worth a goal a week. What all the ball that comes into the forwardline that never even reached KK, thats wasted.Whitnall and KK together might get 150/160+ chances which if we split equally would have to give around 40+55 goals min.

The way I see it.If we could get him for a reasonble price( trade not PP) we would be silly not to give it a try.Whats reasonable , probably the sort of players that have been mentioned but not coupled with R1
Round2 + Spriggs/Rahilly/Slade/Rooke/Chambers/Lonergan/McCathy etc
Round3 + Enright/Moloney/Playfair/Gardnier/

If Ottens is over priced lets look at Big Red - remember we are trading for Ottens on potential, Lance has plenty of potential too and probably comes alot cheaper.

You're a top mate, but sheesh, you'd rather Nathan Thompson than Lance Whitnall?

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

I'd much rather see Lance in the hoops than Bradley Ottens.

The Cats are very reluctant on Lance Whitnall, so unless the deal is very favourable it is unlikely to seem him in what would be unflattering hoops next year. Tarrant is not up for trade and they are also keen on Drew Petrie.

Cant see any upside to getting Lance Whitnall whatsoever, but I believe Nathan Thompson could be a good player, just a personal choice I guess. Although neither is likely to win us a flag, I can see Thomspon being a better player for us. A change of scenery may be all he needs, as for Lance, well I think he may have bigger problems than that.

If Lance hits his best we would win the flag. We have so many entries inside 50 that we need to convert. Big Red at his best would be unstopable.

Geelong are not keen on whitnall worried it will turn out like Mitchell White.

Can't really blame them, or you for thinking that way.

I just want a deal to be struck where we do not lose too much really.

I agree though, Lance or Thompson will not win us a flag. Winning a flag cannot be pinned on one player, it will be another superb, but collective effort from the boys, along with a few forwards stepping up to the plate.
