Carlton vice-captain Lance Whitnall's foot injury has been diagnosed as 'bone-bruising' and not a stress fracture as was initially feared.

Whitnall's right foot will be in a 'cam-walker' boot for the next two weeks, after which he is confident of being able to resume full training.

"It's on the verge of being a stress fracture. We've got it really early and gotten on top of it pretty early. Things will settle, hopefully in a couple of weeks," Whitnall said at Optus Oval on Thursday.

"I'm pretty relieved it's not the full six weeks as first thought. It might only be two or three. Who knows yet?"

Whitnall sought out medical advice after his right foot became progressively sore during the win over Richmond last Saturday night.

"I got it scanned on Monday, then got reports back on Tuesday. There's nothing that I can recall that set it off."

While running has been ruled out, Whitnall will maintain fitness by swimming, sit-down boxing and cycling with injured team mates Setanta O'hAilpin (right foot stress reaction) and Trent Sporn (stress fractures).

It's better news. He might be back for the Port game, but I would rest him until the Kangaroos game.

If Fev get's off, we will be pretty much full strength again lol.
