Who could take us to a premiership.???

with ablett and juddas ruled out no one else in the comp would be able to make us premiership contenders IMO

Disagree. What we need, as do most clubs, is a power fwd that can take a mark and kick straight. Someone like Roughie, Brown or Pav.

Our defence is strong. Our Mids/Ruck are starting to get the ball into the F50 enough. We just can't either kick straight or take a mark.

if anything we would need an established midfielder to take some slack of kerr and also speed the development of the other young mids up.

To take us from where we are now to a premiership I think it would require a few guys. A key contested marking forward who can also run in the midfield like a Pav, Riewoldt or Richo. We need more midfield depth so another established star midfielder like Ablett, Judd (lol), DalSanto ect.. and then another genuine decent midfielder.. take your pick.

We would also require a small crumming forward and Rioli or Betts would be the best going around atm.

So we need Riewoldt, Ablett, Rioli and another decent midfielder (J. Selwood). Inject those guys into the team and we could push for top 4 this year.

The cheaper version would be Richo, Pendelbery/Murphy, Betts and Travis/Shane Tuck.

Our developed versions would be Notte/Kennedy, Masten/Ebert/Swift, Arrowsmith/Bedford and Shuey/McNamara/Cockie/Davis ect..

Cockie for forward pocket master. Hopefully we wont need the champ in the middle come next year, and if you want lively, i am sure Cockie fills that need. :)

It is very very rare that a team that goes searching for players through the trade, actually ends up better off after a trade. Conversely, the teams that dont actively seek a trade but rather wait to be approached regarding one of there players more often then not, wins out.

In other words, to get someone like Joel Corey, the price we would have to pay to get someone like Corey, would not be worth it. If it was worth it, Geelong wouldnt have done the trade anyway.

Dont trade. Draft.

What about someone like Daniel Wells ???

He and Laidly have had differences for awhile now and even though they had a little sit down today to try and work it out I still think that Daniel will be up for Trade next year.
Should we pursue that sort of player and who would it take to get a player trade ???

I think with the lack of tall forwards in the side if we offer some of ours they might do the trade.
Here are some of the options i would put forward:

1) Ash Hansen + Brent Staker for Daniel Wells + 3rd round pick.
2) Ash Hansen + Mathew Spangher for Wells + Warren Benjamin
3) Brent Staker + Matt Spangher for Wells + Warren Benjamin
4) Hansen + Staker + 3rd Rnd Pick for Wells + Riggo + 2nd Rnd Pick.

I think 1 of those might get the deal across the line.

Plus Daniel may be that line breaker we need in the Midfield.

Think about This:
RR: Cox, Kerr, A.Selwood
C: Swift, Masten, Wells
INT: Ebert, Shuey, Naitanui, Priddis
Looks Bloody Good :thumbsu:

Dont know about premiership but wouldn't mind Leunenberger.

He's back in Perth recovering from his knee injury, and I know he doesn't particularly love living in brisbane.

His mum had been visiting him regularly when he was living in Brisbane as he was very homesick.

Leunenberger and Naitanui would be a nice fit for when Cox retires.

He may asked to be traded at years end will have to wait and see.

No team in there right mind would give us anything other then shitty draft picks or other hacks in exchange for Hansen or Staker.

If they are shit players for us they will be shit everywhere. The other teams aren't stupid.

The only way we will get Daniel Wells is several high draft picks or giving up proven 'best 22' players in which case it will never be in our best interests.

Leuenberger is injury-addled, don't want him.

Nor do I want to see us pick up Riggio or Benjamin Warren. Too meh-ish for me. I don't agree with Haydos though; players function differently under different setups. Some players everyone thought were terrible have gone on to have fruitful careers at other clubs - some who were very good went on to have terrible careers at other clubs. That kind of throwaway line just doesn't hold.

On Staker, if he shows us no improvement this year it would be a huge gamble to take him on, so no club would part with a solid pick for him. The absolute best you could hope for on his own is third or fourth round.

I'll just throw this one in here, but I thought we might have tried for Lovett from Essendon last year. I think they wanted a bit too much for him, and I'm not suggesting for a second that he would bring us a premiership, but I think he would have been ok for us on a wing or half forward. Having said that, Im sure if WCE thought he would have been any value to us they would have gone for him.

I wouldnt want Wells.. Id prefer a lesser light midfielder with consistancy than a game breaker who only bobs up 5-6 times a year, you just cant build around a bloke like that. I would love Luenberger (spelling) absolutely love him at the club and wouldnt mind trading his value for him either, not that Brisbane would ever ever ever want to let him go.

None of the above would win us a premiership right now, but a Naita/Leuen ruck combo with a pinch hitting cox!! *salivating*
