Who remembers the Cox incident??

Does anybody remember the Cox incident????.

I cant remember his first name but he was some player who played for the Saints and half way durring the year Richmond decided to challenge the legitimacy of his clearance from Richmond. The Saints lost all thier home and away points and we happened to play them the next week at VFL Park.

I remember the family friend who took me as a kid telling me not to wear any Richmond beanies or jumpers because he feared the backlash from StKilda fans could be directed at Richmond fans that day. A bit over the top I thought at the time. I remember thinking we shouldnt have to resort to that for some average back pocket player but we were pretty Ruthless in all departments.

turned out to be an absolute dud so i don't know what the fuss was all about?

It was a huge incident at the time - Saints president Lindsay Fox called Richmond 'pimps' for their actions in the affair. In that Richmond match, Cox played on Bartlett for most of the match before being knocked out behind the play late in the game.

The Saints were for a short time docked their points from the wins they had collated to that stage but, this being the 1980s, they didn't lose much.
