Opinion Who should be the SUB? - 2014 Grand Final Edition

No changes to the side or even to the sub. This is pretty much the side/structure we've been going with for a majority of the second half of the season (minus the odd changes for injury/player management).
Even if Bird doesn't make the best sub choice, this is still without a doubt our best possible line up for 2014 - we should play our best possible line up in the grand final. Lloyd really the only other sub option, but nothing so far in this finals series has suggested switching the 2.

If we're forced to make a change through injury, Mitchell in as sub. Laidler surely the only other realistic candidate to come in, but if he plays he definitely needs to start - would be a horrible sub choice.

Has to be bird. Cunningham will be needed to tag Hill or Smith and Lloyd's hard running and brilliant link up play will be far too important on the wide expanses of the G.

NO. Mitchell won't and shouldn't start. I'm far from convinced he is firstly match fit. Reid is critical structually especially if there is an injury down back or in the forwardline.

Then Parker goes free, or Jack, or McGlynn, or Hanners. Honestly Mitchell is not coming in full stop, especially to play a full game unless he has somehow miraculously worked out how to kick in 2 weeks.

I'm surprised people are going with Bird. Bird is a hard-tackling premiership player. Swapping him with Lloyd would be seamless.

Leaving Sam Reid out of the team for yet another mid (however good that mid is) is a bit like saving $50 by not taking out travel insurance on a trip to Bali. Minimal payoff, massive consequences if something goes wrong.
